August Memories

August has finally come to an end and it is time to recap what we have done in our original content department.

In our Game[On] section, we have first announced the winners of our 1st I Scream Award and we are excited to do the shoot with the winners in October! Then we also have a mini special on the Wear It Loud event which consists of mini biographies of the celebrities whom are in the event that night. We are lucky to be able to have a mini interview with Rick Campanelli.

As for the [Un]Discover department, we have 2 great graphic artists: blindSALIDA for funky illustrations and Spiros Halaris, a fantastic fashion illustrator. As for fashion brands, we finally get an interview with the bear from Shoe The Bear (interesting feature, we must say). Last but not least, Palmer and Sons is the last feature of this month and we absolutely love their bags!

This month also has 2 new sections on our blog. Wish[granted] is a giveaway section and congrats to Ally Lesniak for winning the Deborah Lippman Boom Boom Pow nail color.

Next we have Fashoinist[On The Go], a new section which we take a look at weekly entries from The Fashionist and we pick a few interesting stories that we like and share with you.

Come back next month and see what we have in store for you! You will be amazed by the line up we have in September!

Ray of Inspirology: Liv for Love

Thanks to Willy Vanderperre, now I know Liv Tyler can totally be a full time model.

This spread is featured in the latest issue of LOVE Magazine. The shoot is simple but the composition is great here. Out of the 7 shots, 3 of them have instantly become my favorites. This series shows the most elegant side of Liv and she is definitely more than just a great actress, but also a great model too.

Trendology: Camper Toðer: Kremer

If you have ever owned a pair of Camper, you will know how comfortable and nice they are and I am sure the following collaboration will catch your eyes.

Every season Camper collaborates with different fashion designers to create the project Camper To&ether. One of the designers the brand has found for this project Romain Kremer. This pair of black leather shoes may look normal to your when first look at it, but if take a closer look at the back, that is where the magic happens. The heel of the shoe is covered with red plastic to make it looks futuristic. I know this pair of shoes is going to be very comfortable and with the addition of the red plastic, it just injects the edginess to the shoes.

If you want to purchase it, you can click here.

Ray of Inspirology: All Abut Eva

In this issue of LOVE, there is an editorial dedicated to Eva Cavalli, the wife of designer Roberto Cavalli.

This spread is shot by Mert and Marcus and the models here are Joan Smalls, Guinevere Van Seenus, Cindy Crawford and Ming Xi. All models are in Roberto Cavalli dresses and they all look extremely sexy in the shots. My favorite ones will have to be Guinevere Van Seenus and Cindy Crawford ones, these 2 photos are simply breath taking.

What about you, which shot is your favorite?

Trendology: CLASH: The Battle Of Elegance: Jasper Huang

One of the main events in the TaiwanFest is the runway show called CLASH: The Battle Of Elegance and it showcases 3 of the best Taiwan designers in the world (Jasper Huang, Chiui Hsu, and Angela Chen). Today, my focus is on Japser Huang.

East meets West is probably the best phrase to describe Jasper's collection. The clothes in this runway show are very colorful and you can see Jasper uses a lot of Chinese elements to create the fusion futuristic look. Some Chinese elements you can see here are lion head mask, the red lantern sleeves, the blue and white porcelain pattern, the floral cloth and also the big pink belt rope. I am stunned by his excellent craftsmanship and the use of fabrics, and this is why he is the winner of  “the best use of fabrics” by International Apparel Federation.

Here are my favorites and you can click here for the full runway show!

Trendology: Prada Napa Knit Tote

Here it comes the Fall IT bag - the Prada Napa Knit Tote.  To show their skills in playing with leather and keeping up with the latest trend, they came up with this leather knit tote that has the same knit pattern as a straw bag.  However, this hand-knit napa lambskin is much softer than straws as it creates the equal (or better) visual effects.  To go along with its softness, it comes with soft frame detail and with double top handle snapping closed, napa lambskin lining and interior pockets for your needs.  Other than red, or they called it Corteccia, the bag also comes with brown multicolour.  This collection of Napa Knit also has another version that's in black, or Nero as they called, that comes with silver colour hardware and articulated frame detail.  Of course, Prada didn't forget our needs, providing us this little version of the bag as clutch.  They are all available in Saks on Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman.

Ray of Inspirology: Divine Idylle

Autumn is coming very soon and I feel a bit sad that I still cannot do a shoot like this.

This spread is shot by Camilla Akrans featuring Edita Vilkeviciute in the latest issue of Numéro. I am very positive that this shoot takes place during April or May because of the lovely cherry blossom. The photos are so soft and warm (even though there is the blue tint here, is still so warm) and Edita is performing so great by using the Sakura trees as props. This series just reminds me that summer is almost over and time to prepare for fall and winter...

Trendology: Back To School With Danier

I am sure some of the readers here are still busy buying your back to school supplies since school will start very soon. Now, I have some good advice for you: Head to Danier as soon as possible with your SPC card. Why? Because you can receive 25% off of regular priced merchandise each time you shop.

With this wonderful discount, I am sure you will now want to purchase some cool backpacks and jackets for the new school year. Hmm, how much I wish I were a student right now...

Funkology: Dr. Martens 50th Anniversary Boot USB Stick

If you are a fan of Dr. Martens, you should know that this year is the brand's 50th anniversary. In order to celebrate this big year, the brand not only releases a 50th anniversary collection, but also, there is this interesting Boot USB stick.

This limited edition USB stick is 2'' tall with 2BG capacity. I am loving the shoe shape of this USB stick and also the details are amazing here. If you would love to have this in your Martens' collection, you can click here to purchase it.

Ray of Inspirology: Natasha Poly for Numéro #116

Natasha Poly, black and white, Karl Lagerfeld, Outdoor. One more element is missing in this formula and yes, there is also Baptiste Giabiconi in the mix.

This editorial is the latest series by Karl Lagerfeld and this time around, Karl is going for a darker mood. There is no doubt the clothes in this editorial are beautiful here. The chemistry between Baptiste and Natasha is great and the series somehow convinces me they are a couple. I love location of this shoot and of course the car is one of the best props here.

I do think when these 3 people get together, amazing shoot will happen. Do you like the photos here?

Trendology: Alexander McQueen F/W 2010 Look Book

Sarah Burton, I salute you!

With the permanent absence of Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton and the McQueen team have digested the Angels and Demons runway show and using Lee McQueen's inspiration to recreate this ready to wear collection.

As many of you may have observed, the Greco-Roman era's jacquard pattern is the main element in this collection. Knitwear and knee length silk dresses are the two main designs I see throughout this collection and every piece in this collection is like a piece of great painting. The two angel gowns give me the pure and innocent feeling, but also with the gothic edge. Of course, the detailing on the shoes is making this shoes collection iconic and I know a lot of people will go crazy for them. I cannot pick my favorite piece in this collection since most of them are just so elegant and classy and whoever is wearing one of these pieces will instantly become a live walking painting.

This collection does live up to Alexander McQueen's name and I hope Sarah Burton will continue the McQueen's legacy and create more amazing pieces in the future. Best of luck and may Lee finally find his happiness in another world.

[On]Air: Art of Fashion 2010 Application

Fellow fashion designers, this competition is calling for your attention!

There are only 3 days left to accept the application for the 12th annual Art of Fashion design competition and trunk show in Toronto. According to Michelle Planche, the founder of this organization, the theme this year is La Belle Époque because she wants to 'draw a hopeful historical parallel with the “beautiful era” before World War I – a time of glamour, opulence and sophistication that blossomed in a period of peace and economic prosperity'.

The winner of this competition will receive a minimum $1000 cash prize, a complimentary professional photoshoot with model, hair, makeup and also getting window display at one of Toronto's fashion outlets and more.

The 10 designers who are into the competition will be competing for 2 awards: "Most Promising Designer", which is selected by a panel of industry judges and also the "Best Exhibit", which is selected by guests whom attend the trunk show. Speaking of the trunk show, each designer will be showcasing 6 garments which are created exclusively for this event.

Good news is we are here to remind all designers to enter this competition but the bad news is, you only have 2 days to do it! The deadline will be 31st August. We wish you all the best and if you want more information, please click here.

Ray of Inspirology: Miranda Kerr for Vogue Spain September 2010

Miranda Kerr is the September issue cover girl for Vogue Spain and her editorial is stunning!

This spread is shot by Tom Munro and it is divided into 2 parts: color and black and white. The color series shows Miranda as a more edgy and upbeat person while the black and white set shows her glamorous and classy side. It's funny how when I look at the black and white set, I think of some perfume ads (now I understand why people say you can see the smell). Miranda is absolute stunning in this shoot and I wonder if this will be her last shoot in the fashion magazine world before her baby is born.

Ray of Inspirology: Snow White

I have been waiting for this editorial for awhile now and finally it has surfaced on the web!

This editorial is Nick Knight for i-D Magazine. The models here are Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. What I find this editorial special is the use of 1 single color for each model: black for Kate and white for Naomi. If you are hoping this editorial will be some fairy tale shoot, then you will be disappointed. This shoot has the dark edge and gothic mood to it. This spread is not your typical editorial and you have to view it in a more artistic prospective. Overall, I think this combination works so well together and my personal favorite will be the last photo of Kate Moss (where all the strings are all over the place)

P.S: After looking at the editorial again, I think the theme is about the reflection on good and evil, what is your thought?

Ray of Inspirology: Last Exit to Brooklyn

Mert and Marcus always take simple location to an artistic level and this time, their target is Brooklyn.

Ginta Lapina and Kirsi Pyrhonen star in this editorials for the latest issue of W Magazine. Acid hue photo processing technique is applied in here and you can see the photos are covered in a tint of blue. I find this set to be intriguing because the town looks as if it is isolated from the world. Both models perform very well here and once again, the Prada piece has caught my eyes.

Artology: Bisha Hotel and Residences

This may be my first property and I should keep this building in mind from now on...

If you pass by the Spadina and King area, you should see a site with a big Bisha sign on it. This new boutique residential building will be 41 stories high and it actually has a hotel inside too. I am fortunate to have the chance to see the brochure and the floor plans for this building are great! My favorite floor plan will be Logan, which is a one bedroom + den. The reason why I am writing this building on this blog is because of the interior design of this building. I am so in love with the rooftop since there is a swimming pool up there. Also, the lobby is looking very modern and trendy. Even though these are render images only, I believe the the outcome of this project will be amazing!

For more information, please visit the official website (and you can make an appointment to see the model home).

Loving this hotel lobby

Ray of Inspirology: Rive Gauche et Libre

I love Mert and Marcus' acid hue photo processing technique but this time around, I am more in love with their black and white approach for this editorial.

This editorial is featured in the latest issue of Vogue Paris and models include Daphne, Malgosia and Lea. The images in this spread are so striking and some of them just take my breath away. After seeing this series, I realize a simple gesture can sometimes turn a photo into a kodak classic moment. Other than the models, I am in love with that rose.

Trendology: Yoshida x Kitsuné 75th Anniversary Duffle Bag

It's strange that good bags start to pop up when I have already bought my bag for this season.

Since this is  Kitsuné 75th anniversary, this brand has found Yoshida (Porter) to collaborate on this duffle bag. The red buttons and black leather details are making this white canvas bag extra special and I wish my Black Beauty duffle bag can be like this. This bag will be sold at the Kitsuné store so if you live in Paris, you should go take a look at it!

Ray of Inspirology: Colour Me Beautiful

Haven't seen Lara Stone on any editorials for quite awhile now so when I see this on the latest issue of W Magazine, I feel good.

This editorial is shot by Mert and Marcus and the duo never fails me. I feel a strong independent woman vibe here simply because of the clothing and make up on Lara. I really like the hair length Lara is having in this shoot because it injects edginess to her look. The lighting is simple but the outcome is marvelous!

Ray of Inspirology: Dior F/W 2010 Womenswear Promotion Campaign Part 2

Finally, more Dior promotion campaign photos have surfaced online and I am madly in love with this artistic approach!

In case you have not seen the first promotion photo, this series is shot by Steven Meisel featuring model Karlie Kloss. The series continues to have the gothic element in it and at some point, I feel like I am looking at a Pirates of the Caribbean high fashion ads (Galliano can think about doing a collaboration with Disney). Now I wonder if there will be more on the way.

Ray of Inspirology: Alexander Wang F/W 2010 Promotion Campaign

My love for Abbey Lee has grown more everyday and when I know Craig McDean is in charge for this shoot, my expectation is high. Luckily, it does not disappoint me at all.

This series is the new promotion campaign for the Alexander Wang F/W collection. I really love how Craig uses the bright hot light on Abbey Lee to create the center of focus. The background of the shoot has made a link to the brand in my brain because I always think Wang's clothes are always rough and edgy (studs all the way). Of course, Abbey delivers very well in these photos and I think she looks very good in Wang's clothes.

Now I wonder how the next promotion ad campaign can top this.

Trendology: Hard Graft 2UNFold Bag

I love Hard Graft and I have been waiting for this bag to have stock for a long time. On September 6th, my dream will come true.

This 2UNFold bag is one of Hard Graft's best selling items and it is always running out of stock. the design of this bag is amazing and now there are 2 styles for you to choose: one in leather and one in wool felt. At this moment, I cannot decide which bag I want to get (wait, I have a bag on my way already, maybe I will wait for the 3FOLDbag to re-surface again) and you should keep an eye on the official website because this bag will sell like hot cakes!

Fashionist[On The Go]: LOVE, Coco Rocha's Wedding and Victoria's Secret Opening

It's time for me to pick up some interesting stories from the Fashionist that I have not talked about on this blog. Well, let's start with this:

LOVE is finally releasing it's latest issue soon these are the 8 covers you can choose from. Every model here has a different character so you can pick whoever suits your taste the most. My pick will have to be these three: Agyness Deyn, Alessandra Ambrosio and Buela the Doll (this is the surprise!). All covers are shot by Mert and Marcus (now this scores bonus point for me) [Read Here]

Agyness Deyn and Alessandra Ambrosio (source: The Fashionist)

Coco Rocha has recently released the wedding video of her wedding and I am so touched after watching it. This is the wedding video I am always hoping to see. It is truly beautiful and the videographers have done an amazing job capturing the newlyweds expressions. (This is something I don't usually put on the blog and now I feel my blog is complete because of this section! Watch the 19 minutes version for more touching moments.) [Read Here]

It's always a wish for many girls here to have a Victoria's Secret store next to their houses and this wish is finally granted. The first Victoria's Secret store is finally opened in Toronto and the angels Adriana Lima, Erin Heatherton and Chanel Iman are there for the opening event. Christopher Turner, the editor of The Fashionist, has a chance to interview with the three angels and you should definitely check it out.  [Read Here for the opening event/ Read Here for the interview]

Welcome Angels and I will be avoiding Yorkdale this weekend (source: The Fashionist)

This is the roundup I have for you for now. Come back next Friday at 11am for some new interesting stories I pick from The Fashionist

Wave of Inspiration: Gucci Guilty Commercial

If you are a fan of Gucci, Frank Miller, Evan Rachel Wood and Chris Evans, then you will love this commercial.

After much anticipation, Gucci has finally released the video commercial for Gucci Guilty. This commercial is like the continuation of Sin City or Spirit and I love the color treatment of it. The only thing I wish it could improve will the length of this commercial. Can it have a longer version?

Do you like this commercial? Do you think Gucci is heading towards the right direction?

Ray of Inspirology: Roll Me Over Romeo

Unlike female models, I find that when shooting male models, they tend to only give out one expression (signature look); however, this editorial proves guys can actually look good in different expressions.

This spread is shot by Richard Pier Petit and it is featured on The Ones2Watch website. The model here is William Chan and he is styled by Eugene Ong. I really like the expression of William in this series and thanks to Brian Haugen the hair stylist, William looks great in different hairstyles. Even though some of the photos are in color, the general tone of this shoot is black and white. With the dog as the prop, I just can't help myself but liking this editorial more!

Here are my favorites and you can click here for the complete spread.

[Un]Discovers: Palmer and Sons

Ever since I have posted an entry about Palmer and Sons' Leather Suitcase No 03 M, I have been wanting to do a feature on this brand. Finally, my dream has become reality and here I present you my interview with Nik and Jack Palmer, the brains behind Palmer and Sons.

Suitcase No 03 S in Havana Brown (with wool Gaberdine lining)

Hello Nik and Jack, thanks so much for taking some time from your busy schedule to answer some of my questions. So how did you and Jack come up with this brand? Is there a family history behind it?
The brand Palmer And Sons was established in the first place as somewhere we could aim our creativity at. We were interested in craftsmanship in several areas including carpentry, leatherwork, and metal-smithing.

Graphicology: Chubby Book Series 2

It's no secret that I love to support illustrators and recently PinkGhost has sent me this product preview and I just fall in love with it.

This Artist Chubby Book series 2 will be  released on September 18 and the artists for this series are  Alberto Cerriteño, Crowded Teeth and Piktorama. Each chubby book has 100 lined pages, 150 sketch pages and 10 artist dsigned postcards.

The illustrations on these 3 books are beautiful and I think the graphics will be able to cheer you up if you have a bad day. Trendology: Alexandre Herchcovitch x Medicom Fabrick x Porter Capsule Collection

Just when I have ordered my Porter bag, this collection just shows up from no where and now I would love to go back in time and cancel my order.

This capsule collection is a collaboration among Alexandre Herchcovitch, Medicom Fabrick and Porter. This collection includes duffle bag,s waist bags, backpacks, shoulder bags and wallets. The skeleton pattern on the bags is from Alexandre's work and I think it matches the bags very well. Out of the 3 color patterns, my favorite will have to be the black and white one because the skeletons are so outstanding here.

I wonder if I can get an extra bag in my bag collection...
