February 2011 Memories

This has been a wild month for us and we will give you all the details here in case you missed all our original contents!

This is the second month of our 12 Months Of [Pop Up] Flavors and our collaboration unit is Everyone Is An Artist (eia). In this month, all 4 editions of [Un]Discovers are chosen by Kyle Kofsky, the founder of eia. The artists include Chach, a talented musician; Franco Deleo, a fantastic photographer; Zenon Turczyn, a great film maker and The Deadly Nightshades, an all female biker group.

Other than the collaboration work with eia, we have also stepped our foot on the international fashion platform. Dolce and Gabbana's online magazine Swide has become our second home as we are now a contributor to the site. In this month, we have featured the following artists on the website: Madame Peripetie, Spiros Halaris, Helen Huang and. Be sure to check out those entries since some of them have exclusive content just for Swide!

We are also very happy to have received information from Erika Mizuno, a student at Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium, about her Bear Skirt and Rabbit Skirt. Please have this name printed in your mind because very soon you will see her name reappear on our blog. Stay tuned!

We are already gearing up for March contents and you will have to keep an eye on who is going to be our next collaborator. We promise you will be excited when you know the news!

Trendology: Jeremy Scott x Swatch Capsule Collection

So, not long ago Eurotrash Girls and I were talking about Swatch as one of the big brands back in the days. Guess what? This brand is ready to make a comeback!

This season, Swatch has teamed up with Jeremy Scott to produce a capsule collection. From what I have seen so far, the watches are very true to Jeremy's design. If you like wings and lightning bolt, you definitely will want to own a piece of this collection!

Trendology: Dries Van Noten Callan Paint Shirt

Paint shirt is a trend for this menswear season and I do think this is one of the best out there.

This shirt is from the latest collection of Dries Van Noten and what so special about it is the splash paint on it. The paint is hand painted and I am loving the purple and grey color combination. If you want to purchase it, you can click here.

Funkology: Mimobot x Batman USB Sticks Series

After showing you the vintage Batman Mimobot limited edition USB stick, it is time to show you the new Batman series in this entry!

This Batman series consists of 4 characters: Batman, Robin, Joke and Catwoman. They come in 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB. Also, each USB stick has special contents installed for that specific character. My eyes are on the Joker and Batman. What about you?

Walk the Walk: Versace F/W 2011 Collection

It's been awhile since I am totally falling in love with Versace's womenswear but this time, this collection does the trick.

The color palette is fantastic for this season as I am a big fan of purple, yellow, red, green, black and white. As for the gimmick of this collection, it will have to be the flora prints which help to enhance many of the pieces. Also, just like Prada, Donatella is using the big buttons on a lot of the pieces and I truly believe this will be the up coming trend. To me, the best part will be the frocks that are shown at the end of the show. Those fringe numbers are simple stunning not only because of the colors, but also the fine cutting as well. Donatella has clearly won a lot of her old fans back . Bravo!

Pros:
- Love the color palette.
- The floral print is very refreshing, and it enhances many of the pieces.
- The big button military inspired coats are very nice.
- The color accent on some of the dark pieces is a brilliant design idea. Subtle but effective.
- The last few fringe frocks are amazing and I am looking forward to see them on red carpets.
- Did I mention the killer boots? Amazing!

Cons:
- Not too sure about the fur snood
- The reversed S stripe on a few pieces does not work for me.

Eye Candies:
- The military jacket
- The white coat dress with fur sleeves
- White dress with purple and yellow floral print
- The last few fringe frocks

Graphicology: Helen Huang's Chinese Zodiac Signs

Helen Huang has been on a roll lately! First she has drawn the Valentino piece, now she has a new set to show to the readers on this blog! She has recently created this Chinese Zodiac Signs series and every girl in each picture has the particular characteristic associated to the corresponding sign. My favorite will be the rat and dragon. What about you?

Trendology: Original Fake x Porter Wallets

There are two things I like about this collection: the wallets are made of leather which is rare for Porter products and I love the color choice for this collaboration!

These 2 wallets are from the Original Fake x Porter S/S capsule collection and you can see the signature elements, the teeth and the big X on the wallets. My favorite will be the black wallet with the neon yellow X on it. It is simply attractive!

Ray of Inspirology: Hannah Holman For Grey Magazine

I really like the shots done by Catherine Servel in this editorial.

This set is featured in the latest issue of Grey Magazine and the model here is Hannah Holman. The shoot is simple but I can totally understand why this is the case. As you can see, the clothes are the main subjects of this shoot and Hannah looks absolutely beautiful in them. What do you think? Do you like the photos?

Trendology: Jeremy Scott x Linda Farrow Hands Sunglasses

I am not too sure what else to say about this pair of glasses other than fun, weird and creative. This pair of glasses is the collaboration work between Jeremy Scott and Linda Farrow and it comes in 4 colors: black, gold, white and skin color. Even though I am not too sure how much UV it can block from the sunlight, but if you want to be the talk of the night, this hands sunglasses will be a must have for you in this season.

Walk the Walk: D&G F/W 2011 Collection

Want to know the definition of pop art in Dolce and Gabbana's mind? If so, then this D&G collection will be your answer. The collection is full of vibrant colors and instead of using words from other brands, the duo decides to alphabets and transform them into this season's pattern. All the pieces are very wearable and I am very excited to see the return of the sneaker heels. If you are planning to wear something playful for this coming season, this will be the collection for you.

Pros:
- It is a very colorful, fun and pop art-ish collection. Every piece is very playful.
- I am loving the in you face words pattern. The duo has done it in a very fun and bold way.
- Love the use of chiffon in this collection which makes some of the pieces look very light.
- I cannot believe the Sneaker high heels are back after 9 years of absence.
- The alphabets necklace will be a hit this coming season.
- The last scene when all models are dressed in t-shirts with fleece (coated in feathers) miniskirts are fun to watch. This just reminds me of Big Bird.

Cons:
- Somehow the pattern reminds me of a lot of Missoni pieces, just that they are not made of knit.

Eye Candies:
- The alphabet necklace
- The fleece miniskirt

Ray of Inspirology: Fashion Victims

Wallpaper* has finally decided to have the fashion issue and I can tell you this 1st ever fashion issue editorial does not disappoint at all!

This editorial is shot by Matthias Vriens McGrath and it features Alison Nix, Ian Jones, Nick Woronowicz, Michael G, Nils Lawton, Luca, Shaun Haugh and Stephen Thompson. I really like the light set up for this editorial because it creates a very moody feeling and every photo is like telling a story. Also, the fashion pieces in this set rarely show up in other magazine's editorials so I have to give props to Susan Winget for choosing some unique clothes for the shoot!

Graphicology: My Valentines by Helen Huang

Even though Valentine's Day is over, I do have to show you this work by Helen Huang. In this art piece, the girl is wearing the S/S 2011 collection of Valentino's dress and I am loving the ruffles detail here. Once again, the image is very soft and you can totally feel the love from it. What do you think?

Walk the Walk: Prada F/W 2011 Collection

No more Mexican or stripes influence, here comes the real and artificial snake skin! For this season, Miuccia is blending technology and raw materials together to bring out the new image of a Prada girl. Furs, python leathers are used on many of the pieces and at the same time, there is this plastic snake skin (scale) which looks very reflective under the light. As for the pattern, different sizes of squares are used in this season and they are appealing to me. This is an innovative collection and it has once again blown my mind away. Great collection Miuccia!

Pros:
- The socks-sandal boots are back in trend.
- Totally love the plastic snake skin (scales) series. It is very fresh and innovative.
- The python print pieces are great.
- The big buttons on side and furs will be a major trend for this Prada season.
- Expect to see a lot of square patterns this season after Miuccia used them on her collection.
- The glasses are something to die for.

Cons:
- The first few pieces remind me of Miu Miu F/W 2010 collection.

Eye Candies:
- Yellow plastic scale top with fur
- The boots
- The "ski" sunglasses
- The fur coat/dress

Trendology: Fred Perry x Raf Simons S/S 2011 Collection

Fred Perry continues to work with Raf Simons for a capsule collection and for this season, colors and zippers are the main focus elements. Some of the pieces I love include the zipper polo shirt, the zipper short sleeves shirt and the zipper pants. I would love to see this collection in Toronto soon. You can also order the collection online here.

Walk the Walk: Giles F/W 2011 Collection

Giles put on an amazing show for his F/W 2011 collection during London Fashion Week! I can feel the religious vibe because of the prints and I am loving the cuttings of many of the pieces. The whole collection is very elegant and class but with a modern twist! Can you find a piece that will suit you?

Pros:
- Love the black and white numbers.
- The prints are amazing, especially the stained glass prints.
- Love the use of furs
- The silhouette for many of the pieces are amazing.

Cons:
- I am not too sure about a few leather pieces as they seem to belong to another collection.
- One of the fringe dresses looks very incomplete.

Eye Candies:
- Stained glass print dress with black sleeves
- Black lace gown
- Black dress with black fur at the bottom

Wave of Inspiration: Moncler Grenoble F/W 2011 Presentation

I have seen a lot of flash mob presentations but this one from Moncler Grenoble is definitely one of my favorites.

Instead of showing on a normal runway show, Moncler has picked Grand Central Station in New York to be the stage. Models are no longer walking on the runway but instead, they are dancing at the center of the station for almost 10 minutes. The color palette of the collection is nice but nothing beats the upbeat music and the dance moves from the models. I really enjoy this presentation and I hope Moncler will do another out of the box show for the Moncler Grenoble line next season!
