November 2011 Memories

November is just another great month for us and we actually did not imagine so many things could happen at the same time!

With our 12 Months of [Pop Up] Flavors almost coming to an end, we have teamed up with 3 different people to bring you some intense contents. First up, we have Wendy Ding to show us the final wave of her Fashion Journal, and we are in love with the entire project! So inspiring and we wish her all the best in the future! Then, our postcard project is on again this year and we have teamed up Lisa Nishimura to create another one of a kind Christmas postcard. If you have not received it, you will get to see the image sometime in December! Thanks for entering the contest and we hope you enjoy the card!

Last but not least, we collaborated with Miss SLY for an one on one interview. In this interview, you will get to know what she thinks about the fashion industry here and what brands she wants you to know. This is a very interesting collaboration and we hope we will be able to work with you more in the future!

As for our regular [Un]Discovers features, this month we have 3 talented artists and they are illustrator Marianna Ignataki, photographers Alexander James and Andrew B Myers! Now, our [Un]Discovers section will be on hiatus until January 2012, see you soon!

Of course, how can we forget Swide? For this month, we have 4 great features! The artists are: illustrator Jonathan Bartlett, and fashion photographers Dimitris Theocharis, Ashley Lebedev and Lucia Giacani. We will have 2 more features in December and we promise you one of them is one of our biggest features in 2011 (You will have to guess who is our last feature on Swide this year (hint: a model)! December 10 is when you will find out the answer)!

December marks our 2nd anniversary and we promise something great is waiting for you to explore! Stay tuned!

Trendology: Henrik Vibskov Seat Laptop Case

Even though I no longer use a laptop, for some very random reasons, I always encounter some cool laptop cases (yes, this kind of encounter happens once I decided to give up my laptop, I'd say this is revenge) and today this has caught my eyes.

This laptop case is made by Henrik Vibskov and I am in love with the natural and black wooden beads, which the resemble the style of a car seat. If you are interested in this product and have a 11 or 13 inch laptop, I suggest you to head to YMC and order it!

Artology: Gaga's Workshop at Barney's New York

Every year, I am all excited to see what Barneys New York will have in store for the holiday display and this year the store has teamed up with Lady Gaga to create the Gaga Workshop. I am sure everyone is familiar with Lady Gaga so you can imagine how crazy the window displays look like this year. Sadly I will not be able to travel down this Christmas but at least I can look at the online store to see the monster inspired products. Below are some photos and the video of the opening night. I must say Lady Gaga is looking so good in Chanel!

Welcome to the world of Lady Gaga!

Ray of Inspirology: Your Majesty

Well, I give credit where credit is due and this editorial from the December issue of Flare has finally blown me away!

This editorial is shot by Chris Nicholls and it features Emily Fox, Dani and Finlay Moore. Fiona Green has picked up some of the most amazing dresses for this season and the models look so stunning in them. As for the mood of the series, it is so dark, romantic, and edgy! I also feel there is a slightly religion influence in it. A truly stunning editorial and both Chris and Fiona deserve all the props for making this so magical!

Ray of Inspirology: Enter The Void

Through the lens of Henrik Bulow and the amazing styling by Alexandra Carl, Andrej Pejic transforms into a very beautiful, yet toxicated goddess.

This editorial is featured in the premiere issue of SID Magazine and everything is flawless here. The art direction, clothing, composition and colour treatment are all great and these elements create a very dark feeling to the images. Below are my favourites and you can click here to see the complete set! Fantastic!

Ray of Inspirology: KOSA

This is a great hair editorial!

This series is shot by Decker+Kutic' and it is featured in the Spring 2011 issue of Storybook. I like the black and white effect of the images and the hair looks so smooth silky and stylish. I really think that if this series were displayed in hair salon, I am sure a lot of people would go to that store to have their hair done. What do you think?

Click here for more images from this series.

Trendology: Anselm Reyle For Dior Collection

Miami is going to be a hot spot for this coming weekend (starting Thursday technically) as the annual Art Basel Miami festival will be held between December 1 and December 4 . For this special occasion, Christian Dior has collaborated with Berlin based artist Anselm Reyle to create a capsule collection. It consists of accessories and makeup products.

I really enjoy how Reyle has injected such vibrant colours to the iconic bags to make them look refreshing. To me, I think this collection is very modern, uplifting and unique. If you are in Miami, I would recommend you to drop by Christian Dior store to get some of the products before they are all sold out. May there be another collaboration like this in the future for the fashion house!

This is how the fashion house describes the collaboration:
"The legendary Cannage on the Lady Dior and Miss Dior Handbags takes on bold, freestyle interpretations. Twisted, tiled and reinterpreted in a range of colours, each bolder than the next, the top stitching contrasting against bright metallic leathers, it becomes urban, chic, and ultra-modern. Fluorescent camouflage shines vividly on handbags, clutches, shoes and scarves. On some models, the artist wanted to superimpose tilted Cannage on the camouflage motif, creating a sense of movement and a burst of colour. As for the characteristic of Lady Dior charms, they are accompanied by coloured triangles, the Berlin artist's graphic signature"
P.S. If you cannot go to Miami this to attend the festival, this collection will be sold as selective Christan Dior stores in spring 2012. I guess you should keep an eye on your local Christian Dior flagship stores.

Wave of Inspirology: "Happyfication"

Ok, stop what you are doing right now and spend 6 minutes with this short film here...

If you have good memory, you should remember sometime ago Coca Cola released a very entertaining cartoon campaign and now, there is this 6 mins 32 seconds director's cut version floating on the web. I am a huge Coke fan and this video has really made my day. Come on, who doesn't want to hang out with those penguin ladies?

Trendology: Prada Python Tote

I was at Holt Renfrew recently and saw this amazing bag from Prada!

This Tote is from the latest season and it is made of python leather. There are a few colours for you to choose from and the leather lining inside the bag is just beautiful! If you want a wonderful bag for this holiday season, I recommend you head to Holt Renfrew as soon as possible!

Well you can also click here to purchase the bag online if you live in the US!

Art[s]ense: Lucia Giacani

This week on Swide, I have featured yet another amazing fashion photographer and her name is Lucia Giacani. Her works are simply surreal and playful and I really hope you can take some time to look at her works in the gallery as her style will most likely to inspire you if you are in the photography industry. Ray of Inspirology: Lunatic Dreams

My jaw just dropped when I saw this editorial! It is so beautiful!

This editorial is shot by Maciej Bernas and the model here is Dag Raczyńska. First of all, big props to the Boom Team and Anna Piechocka for the amazing styling, makeup and hair. Then the composition is so flawless here and I absolutely love the colour treatment of the photos. The colour processing technique has created a very dreamy, yet dark feeling for the editorial! Below are some of my favourites and you will need to click here to see the rest!

Ray of Inspirology: Salvatore Ferragamo

In the latest issue of Interview, Mikael Jansson has created an editorial based on the S/S 2012 collection of Salvatore Ferragamo. Karl Templer has picked some of hte most iconic looks of the season and transformed Kendra Anderson, Calandra Stavroudis, Ondria Hardin, Maxwell Runko and Jacob Morton into the Salvatore Ferragamo boys and girls. I actually could never imagine you could create a dark atmosphere for this collection until now. The photos are dark, edgy and give a new feeling to this collection. What do you think?

Trendology: JanSport Carbon Collection

Sometime ago, I said backpack is going to come back as a big hit on twitter and somehow, I think my sixth sense is correct.

Recently I came across Highsnobiety and I saw JanSport has created a special collection exclusively for Barney's. The 4 bags (and 1 iPad case) are simple in design, but classy at the same time. The price range for this collection is of course more expensive than the normal JanSport but somehow, I believe a lot of people will want to get a piece. It's irresistible.

Wave of Inspirology: Girl Panic!

Let's just take 10 minutes to watch this fashion music video.

Duran Duran has recently released the music video for the latest single, Girl Panic! and it is directed by Jonas Akerlund. What so fun about this video is Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Eva Herzigova, Yasmin LeBon, Helena Christensen are transformed as the members of the band and they even grace the cover of the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar. The main selling point of this video is the pieces these models are wearing and I can assume you Dolce & Gabbana, Balmain and Louis Vuitton have made the list. If you have good eyes, you can even catch 2 designers in the video too.

What do you think of this short film?

Trendology: Christian Louboutin S/S 2012 No Limit Men’s Flat

Now seriously, if the statement "go big, or go home" applies to all the fashion trendsetters, I think this will be a pair of must have sneakers for men.

This pair of Christina Louboutin's No Limit is made of gold metal spikes, rhinestones and zebra fur (so basically it has all the elements from the brand). Well because this pair of sneakers is such a statement piece, I think a pair of jeans and t shirt will just do the magic! Now, I just want one as well... (won't be in store till next season)

Trendology: hard graft Flat Pack

hard graft continues to release some amazing pieces and this is the brand's latest creation.

For people who want to carry light, this Flat Pack will be your choice of weapon on the road. It is made of caramel tanned Italian leather and sand Italian suede and the pack will fit your 11 inch MacBook Air, iPad and some small items like phones, wallets or coin purse. I personally would like to get one since I am leaning towards traveling light now. What do you think?

Funkology: BookBook Case for iPad

Ever since I bought an iPad, I have been searching around to look for a cool case. Out of all the ones I have seen so far, this one is probably the most outstanding. This case is created by Twelve South (if you are an apple fan, you should know they specialized in mac's accessories) and I really like the old book design. It looks classy and can really product the iPad. If you are interested in this item as well, you can click here.

Ray of inspirology: Fragrance by Antoine Picard

Wow, Antoine Picard is just an amazing stiff life photographer! Below are just some of his works and I think his creativity is without any boundaries! At this moment, I am totally in love with the neon Chanel logo. You need to click here to see more of his amazing works!

Graphicology: Wendy Ding's Fashion Journal Day 30

Wendy Ding's Fashion Journal has finally come to an end and it is my honour to be able to feature the whole project here. On the last day of the project, Wendy has decided to create a personal piece which I think it is a brilliant idea! What do you think of this project? Do you enjoy the illustrations?

When you were illustration this outfit, which fashion house were you thinking at that moment?
H&M, Zara

Which celebrity do you think will fit well in this outfit?
Ezra Koenig, Andre 3000

Tidbit: I did this revamp with my boyfriend in mind as a nice closer for the series. I did this in an effort to introduce new colours to his wardrobe (namely pink). The cardigan was originally a low-cut tank top but I realized this wouldn't be a good look for him. I quite dig the pink jeans on him though!

Fashionist[On The Go]: Valentino Museum Is Coming To Your Computer!

It's another week and here are the stories I have found on the Fashionist that have caught my eyes!

I assume a lot of my readers are fans of Valentino and on December 5th, this fashion house will have a special treat for you! On that day, the brand will release a desktop app for your computer which you can see more than 300 pieces from the Valentino archive. You will also be able to watch 95 runway videos as well. Wow, what a treat, Mr. Valentino! [Read Here]

It will be a must download app for me next month! (Source: the Fashionist)

I am not too sure how many readers here lined up for the Versace for H&M collection past this Saturday but if you have missed it and want a second chance, you may get it (only if you live in Europe though). H&M is going to release a 2nd wave of this collection and it will be released in February. [Read Here]

Oh Donatella! How many more seasons will you work with H&M? (Source: the Fashionist)

Come back next week for another edition of Fashionist [On The Go]!

Artology: Perrier-Jouët Ft. Jo Lynn Alcorn Paper Works

You can never underestimate what paper art can do to ads...

This ad series is a collaboration between Perrier-Jouët and paper art artist Jo Lynn Alcorn. I really like the combination as the paper flowers are very beautiful and at the same time, they help to make the bottle of champagne stands out. It's such an amazing series which makes your eyes happy when looking at the images. What do you think?

[Un]Discovers: Noëlly Sam AKA Miss SLY!

12 Months of [Pop Up] Flavors is almost coming to the end and there is no way I am not including this particular person in this project. Noëlly Sam is one of the biggest supporters of this site and she has been my partner in crime for many projects. I am so happy that she is taking our idea, Fashion[Unfold] to a whole new level and today, it is my honor to put her under my spot light and read what she thinks about this past year.

In case you do not know, Noëlly Sam is the Founder and Editor-In-Chief of miss SLY! one of Canada’s Top Fashion sites, and the Executive Producer and Host of the fashion debate series Fashion[Unfold], hosted monthly on Twitter.

Noëlly in DeMOYO

Noëlly, thank you so much for being part of this experimental project and now I have prepared some questions just for you. I know miss SLY! has a new image this year and the site is looking really good! Have you ever imagined miss SLY! to become one of the most important fashion sites/blogs in the Canadian fashion industry? Are you happy with what you are doing right now?
Well first of all, thank you for having me as the closing feature for à la mode. 2011 has been quite a year. Getting into fashion has been one of the most revealing and rewarding experience for me. And for miss SLY! to be featured on Canada’s top 10 most influential fashion sites/blogs is both thrilling and a great reminder that I should always listen to my guts.

miss SLY! is growing at a steady pace, with contributors and partners from Canada and abroad joining into the mix and bringing us more fashion features, industry interviews and emerging talents, and I am grateful for it all. 2012 will be an interesting year for miss SLY! so I’ll remind myself to take it one post, one debate and one sleep at a time.

Graphicology: Wendy Ding's Fashion Journal Day 29

This series is almost hitting the final chapter but that does not mean Wendy's brain juice is all drained. In fact, this piece, in my opinion is probably one of the best in this series. Now, let's take a look at it!

When you were illustration this outfit, which fashion house were you thinking at that moment?
Roberto Cavalli

Which celebrity do you think will fit well in this outfit?
Nicole Richie, Angelina Jolie, Kim Kardashian, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Lopez

Tidbit: I've always loved animal prints and it would be great to add some grrr to the beach side. I toyed with different cuts for the swimsuit and it was originally a bikini but ended up as a one piece.

Click here for more information about this illustration. You can also buy the print here.

Graphicology: Merry Consumisme

Christmas holiday is here and while I am still working hard to sort out the postcard issue, on the other side of the Earth, Achraf Amiri has something special in store for you.

I have always been a fan of Achraf Amiri's works as most of the time those images do give me a good laugh. Recently, he has produced some amazing Merry Consumisme cards and they are extremely edgy and special (humour included). Below is a little taste of it and you can watch the video below to understand why Achraf is a gifted artist (in my opinion, that is a funny, dark video).

You can click here for more information about the cards.

Trendology: Burberry Festive Collection

Burberry has recently released the Festive Collection to celebrate the holiday season. This collection consists of some pre-spring 2012 accessory pieces (handbag,s scarves, key rings, iPad case, jewellery, wallets) and the colour scheme is mainly orange and yellow. My eyes are totally fixed on the iPad case and this will probably by my Christmas present for this year!

I highly recommend you to go to the online store to take a look at this collection as I really enjoy how the brand wants to interact with you online. It's fun to unwrap and discover the gifts there. Now I am looking forward to see what the brand has in store for us in December since some of the gifts are still wrapped and cannot be opened...

Graphicology: Wendy Ding's Fashion Journal Day 28

You know what came to my mind when I first looked at this image? The girl with the dragon tattoo. Honestly, I have a feeling this outfit might show up in the series somehow. What do you think of day 28 of Wendy Ding's Fashion Journal?

When you were illustration this outfit, which fashion house were you thinking at that moment?
Topshop, Forever 21, Diesel, Material Girl

Which celebrity do you think will fit well in this outfit?
Kate Moss, Ladyhawke, Kirsten Dunst

Tidbit: I'm getting to like scarves more and wearing it as a head wrap is a fun alternative. The revamp sees a fresh-faced young Kate Moss in a DIY look. I wanted her to be girly but not too prim and proper, just like a typical 90's child.

Ray of Inspirology: Fashion Photography by Kristian Schuller

I saw this on Trendland and I just could not resist not posting this photographer's works here!

Kristian Schuller is a Paris based photographer and his works are very dreamy and you will feel like you just enter his Alice in Wonderland world. I also like the movement element in some of his works. Every piece is like a flawless artwork and I just can't get enough of them. Click here to see more of his works!

Now I hope I can get him on Swide...

P.S He has released a book called 90 Days, One Dream and now you can purchase this as an ebook for your iPad/iPhone.

Graphicology: Wendy Ding's Fashion Journal Day 27

If the transformation image is really in production, I am sure a lot of people will line up and get the green cardigan (I think Missoni should really do that!). Anyway, here is day 27 of Wendy Ding's Fashion Journal!

When you were illustration this outfit, which fashion house were you thinking at that moment?

Which celebrity do you think will fit well in this outfit?
Lily Allen, Carey Mulligan, Grace Kelly

Tidbit: This is an outfit I wore to a last minute birthday dinner for a friend! The graphic stripes were my main source of inspiration for the revamp and I did a contemporary 50's look. Her bouncy strawberry blonde hair adds extra delight to the outfit.

Click here for more information about this illustration. You can also buy the print here.
