Ray of Inspirology: Into The Wild

If you can use the blur effect in the right way, your images can be super stunning, just like the following editorial.

This editorial is shot by Sebastian Kim and it is featured in the latest issue of Numero. Ginta Lapina is looking very edgy and bold in the images and I love all the fur pieces she is wearing in the shoot. Once again, the blur effect is playing a major role in this series and it helps the audience to focus on the model.

P.S The blurry background looks like mosaic to me, don't you think so?

Wave of Inspirology: Lady Dior Web Documentary: Lily's Body

Christian Dior has really stepped up the arts game lately and today, the brand has released a very nice animation.

This animation is directed by Eliott Bliss and the storyline is about how Christian Dior meets a girl named Lily and she inspires him to design a beautiful Dior dress. The song in this animation is actually sung by Marion Cotillard, and I find that her singing voice is very lovely!

Graphicology: Fashion Illustrations by Robert Tirado

The following illustrations are beyond amazing!

These illustrations are all done by Robert Tirado, an illustrator based in Spain. I really like the realistic runway illustrations and they are full of energy. Also, the Chanel one is slightly abstract in a way but it completely suits my taste.

I really cannot wait to see what he will illustrate next. You can follow his works on his Facebook fanpage and official website.

Graphicology: Jesus as a Flower

This is simply brilliant!

Jesus as a Flower

This series is illustrated by Cristian Grossi and he interprets Maria Maddaiena, Jesus, Joseph, Maria and Madreperla in abstract floral forms. The images are beautiful, cool and refreshing. If you take a close look at Maria as a Flower, you will the feminine figure, which I think is a very cool concept.

What do you think?

Ray of Inspirology: Modern Couture

If you are a fan of Saskia de Brauw, you will not want to miss out this amazing series!

This editorial is featured in the latest issue of AnOther Magazine and it is shot by Ruth Hogben (from ShowStudio). Saskia looks absolutely stunning in some of the Haute Couture pieces from fashion houses such as Chanel, Christian Dior, Atelier Versace and Maison Martin Margiela. I really like the mood of this shoot as it is very gloomy, which is not the vibe I was expected from a Haute Couture shoot. What do you think?

Walk the Walk: UNTTLD S/S 2013 Collection

One of my favourite shows in this season's Toronto Fashion Week was UNTTLD. It was beautiful, dark and inspiring.

This collection was inspired by the Japanese kimono and José Manuel St -Jacques and Simon Bélanger gave this traditional piece a modern twist. The collection was very well edited and there was a well balance of dramatic and wearable pieces. The metallic brass pieces were one of the highlights and they injected energy to the collection.

UNTTLD has really surprised me this season and I am hoping to see more wonderful collections from the duo in the future. Thanks Mercedes Benz StartUp program for introducing this brand to me.

Pros:
- The collection is very cohesive and well edited.
- Well executed on the interpretation of Japanese Kimono. I really like the modern twist of it.
- The clothes are very well constructed to make the UNTTLD girls look edgy.
- The music has helped to get the audience into a dark mood, which equals to the vibe of this collection.
- The metallic pieces are on point and this metallic fabric is a major trend in S/S 2013.
- The nails are amazing and they need to be a part of the trend next season.

Cons:
- I actually don't really understand what is going on in the short film before the runway show. Can someone explain the concept to me?

Eye Candies:
- Black kimono inpsired floor length coat
- Metallic dress
- White kimono inspired white suit
- Green sleeveless top with black leather detail

Graphicology: What I Wore Today Series by Deanna Staffo

I believe most of us are getting a little bit overwhelmed by street style photos by now. However, Deanna Staffo has used a different medium to showcase her outfits and this series has captured my heart.

Instead of taking photos of herself, Staffo illustrated the outfits she wore on that day. The illustrations are very cute, neat and whimsical. This series is refreshing and I really hope Staffo will continue illustrating her outfits in the future. I know she can inspire other people to use different mediums to showcase their daily outfits.

Trendology: Lanvin Grey Batik Python Oxford Shoes

Lanvin men's shoes are always so amazing and this season, I am completely attracted to this pair of oxford shoes.

This pair of oxfords is made of calf leather with snakeskin texture throughout. I really like the natural dual tone of the snakeskin, which makes the shoes look unique and fresh. If anyone is going to get a pair, I would like to see an image of it!

This pair of Lanvin Grey Batik Python Oxford Shoes is now available at Ssense.

Trendology: Swarovski S/S 2013 Collection

Swarovski's F/W 2012 collection has completely wowed me when I went to the preview few months ago and I thought to myself: there is no way the next collection can top this. Well, I was wrong and I think this collection is probably the best one in Swarovski history.

For this coming season, Swarovski is bringing us to the exotic journey. According to Creative Director Nathalie Colin, the inspirations are from the "celebratory atmosphere of Rio de Janeiro's legendary carnival to the authentic and natural universe of the Amazon rainforest". The pieces are very colourful and can truly capture the spirits of the South America vibe.

One of the coolest pieces is the Texture bib necklace. The print of the leather is printed exclusively for Swarovski and I like how the crystals are embroidered on it. That braided silver chain adds a modern touch to the piece which I think it is a brilliant design.

There are just so many pieces I love from this collection and the images below are just some of my favourites. You will need to check out the Swarovski stores early next year to see this wonderful collection!

Ray of Inspirology: Maison Martin Margiela with H&M Accessories Lookbook by Björn Jonas

I guess many of you by now are already getting for the release of the Maison Martin Margiela with H&M collection and today I came across this amazing editorial shot by Björn Jonas (a collaboration with highsnobiety) and I just need to share with you right now.

The 16 images highlight all the accessories in this collection. I like the clean setting with the MMM and H&M logo on the floor. Jonas has successfully captured the aesthetic of the MMM brand and adding the mini props further show the rawness of this brand. The more I look at the images, the more I am attracted to the collection.

Trendology: Banana Republic Anna Karenina Inspired Collection Look Book

About a week ago, I showed you a preview of Banana Republic Anna Karenina Inspired collection and today, the complete look book has finally arrived!

I find this collection to be very affordable for the women as the price range is between $55- $228 (Men pieces are slightly more expensive because of the coats. $610 is the most expensive piece). All the pieces are very good for parties in this coming holiday season and they are pretty versatile. My favourite piece from the womenswear is the crimson cowl-back dress ($175) and for the menswear, I am in love with the black monogram flannel single-breasted jacket ($610).

If you are a fan of this collection, make sure you head to the Banana Republic store on October 31st.

Store[opening]: Alexander McQueen Savile Row Menswear Flagship Store

After so many years, Alexander McQueen first ever flagship menswear store has finally arrived!

This new store is located at 9 Savile Row London. If you at the images, you can see this store is divided into 2 worlds: one from Sarah Burton and one from Alexander McQueen. These 2 worlds are pulled together by David Collins Studio. The store has a strong Victorian vibe, yet, there is a very modern touch on it as well, especially the black floor.

This store will have the largest offering for the men's ready to wear collection and in the near future, it will also have the bespoke tailoring service which I am looking forward to.

Let's be honest, who doesn't want a Alexander McQueen bespoke suit?

Walk the Walk: Caitlin Power S/S 2013 Collection

Mercedes Benz StartUp competition final was held yesterday night at the World of MasterCard Fashion Week and instead of talking all 8 designers here, I would like to just focus on one - Caitlin Power.

People who had seen the F/W 2012 show would have high expectation on Power's S/S 2013 collection yesterday night. Even though there were only 8 pieces showing on the runway, they were all very strong and truly captured the aesthetic of the brand. This collection continued to have a very strong futuristic vibe and the highlight was definitely the last piece which metallic leathers were used.

Even though Power didn't win the competition in the end, her collection had won a lot of compliments from the fashion crowd. Without a doubt, many people (including me) will be excited to see what she has in store for us next season!

Pros:
- The colour palette makes the collection very cohesive. The little yellow piping detail injects energy to the pieces.
- I really like how she continues to stick to the futuristic theme. I can see a Star Trek influence on some pieces, especially the last piece.
- The fit of each piece is flawless. The entire collection is very well constructed.
- Leather continues to be a strong element of the brand and she is probably the only brand I will never say no to leather.

Cons:
- I think the metallic leathers need to make a few more appearances in this collection. 1 piece is not enough for my eyes.

Eye Candies:
- Sleeveless blouse with metallic leathers panels
- Dress shirt with yellow piping detail
- Black sleeveless blouse with yellow piping detail and abstract cloud print

Walk the Walk: Ashtiani S/S 2013 Collection

I first met Ashtiani back in October 2011 and immediately fell in love with her S/S 2012 collection. Fast forward to October 2012 and once again, her S/S 2013 collection has completely blown my mind.

The inspirations of this collection were coming from the luxe sportwear and fresh cocktail frocks in the early 1960s in the south of France. In order to put a modern twist on this collection, Ashtiani used silk organza, PVC, textured cotton and techniques such as cut outs and accents of geometric appliqué on the pieces. The result was stunning and the Ashtiani girls all looked very sporty, playful and elegant.

Now I really hope this collection will be selling in Toronto as I believe girls will die for many of the piece!

Ashtiani, I am now looking forward to your next collection!

Pros:
- I love the colour palette. The colour combinations make the collection very youthful and fun.
- It's refreshing to see the geometric shape cut outs on the pieces.
- I really like the fitting of the pieces. They are very well constructed.
- Ashtiani has amazing skills. She can produce a piece with the use of different fabrics. She clearly knows what material will look good on which body part. This is pure talent.

Cons:
- The only thing that I slightly do not like is the organza trousers. I think if it is half textured cotton & half organza the result would be better.

Eye Candies:
- White PVC jacket with patent leather panels
- White textured cotton/organza peplum top
- Multi color dress
- Sleeveless shirt

Ray of Inspirology: Vogue Homme Japan Gifs by FASHGIF

There is no doubt that 2012 is the year of gifs and I personally have been obsessed with them. Recently, I came across an awesome fashion gifs Tumblr called FASHGIF and little did I know, the owner of the site actually did a cool series for Vogue Homme Japan.

This animated editorial is shot by Nicola Formichetti and features Graham Reese, Jarrod Scott, Mikkel Jensen, and Sung Jin Park. All the clothes in the images are from the S/S 2013 season and I have to give a lot of props to Greta (the owner of FASHGIF) for making such a creative and inspiring animated series. My top favourite is the Dior Homme heart.

I have a good feeling this animated gif trend is going to survive in 2013 so I am excited to see what FASHGIF has in store for us in the future!

Ray of Inspirology: Statement Scents

If you are still not awake by now, maybe this editorial will help you. It's time to play the "where's my fragrance" game!

In the latest issue of Book For Men by SHARP, Rick Genest (Zombie boy) is shot by Matt Barnes in this black and white editorial. It is interesting to see how the fragrance bottles are acting like tattoos and are embedded on Rick's body. If you are familiar with fragrances, you should be able to spot the Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb, Diesel Only the Brave, Fan di Fendi, and Blue de Chanel bottles.

Now are you awake yet?

Wave of Inspirology: Boys and Girls of Fashion Week by Justin Wu

Justin Wu pretty much made my day today with this amazing video he shot for Vogue Paris. Fashion + music + a little bit of artistic background, how can you go wrong with this combination?

The models in the video were all lip-syncing Do You Want To by Franz Ferdinand and the footages were captured in Milan, Paris, Beijing and New York. The video was filled with energy and it was great to see some of the models dressed in high fashion pieces.

Some of the familiar faces you can identify immediately include Kate King, Fei Fei Sun, Shu Pei, Sui He and River Viiperi.

Now this video is a good way to let me get ready for fashion week here. What do you think?

Ray of Inspirology: VAWK F/W 2012 Promotion Campaign

Toronto Fashion Week starts today and if you are a fan of VAWK, you should be excited for the show on Friday evening. In order to build up the hype, today I would like to share this amazing F/W 2012 collection promotion campaign from the brand.

These campaign images are shot by Chris Vassalos and the location is at  Cheltenham Badlands Trail in Caledon, Ontario. Ishie is dressed in a few iconic pieces from the VAWK F/W 2012 collection and she looks elegant. I also really like her expressions as she can really show what a sci-fi samurai should look like. Last but not least, the beautiful landscape has enhanced the image composition and at some point, I feel like Ishie is posing in Mars.

Bravo to the entire creative team and I am now hyped for the S/S 2013 show this coming Friday. Are you ready?

Game[On]: 007 Opening Celebration

Are you a big fan of James Bond? Are you ready for a once in a life time 007 experience? If so, you will not want to miss this event.

As many of you may know, TIFF is going to have an exhibition based on the 50-year history of James Bond films and Ian Flemming novels from October 26- January 20, 2013. This exhibition will showcase some original costumes, props, models, gadgets, concept artwork, storyboards and other fascinating artifacts from the movies. However, if you cannot wait till Friday (like me), you can actually be among one of the first people to see the exhibition before anyone else on Thursday, October 25.

On that day, not only will you be able to see the exhibition, but you will have a chance to experience the 007 James Bond's lifestyle as well. Inside the TIFF Bell Lightbox that night, you will be able to visit a casino in Luma, a gold & diamond lounge, a photo booth, and an ice lounge sponsored by Kobo. Also, The Big Sound, a 20-piece Motown band, will be there to perform on that night. Did I mention that you will have a chance to win a night staying at Shangri-La hotel and a dinner at Bosk?

The price for this event will be $160 each and the proceeds will be going to support film programmes and education initiatives at TIFF (therefore you will receive a charitable tax receipt). If you have a dozen friends wanting to go to this event, I suggest you to get the ticket package (12 tickets for the price of 10). This event will have an open bar and hors d'oeuvres throughout the night. I will be there on that night so if you have never met me in person before, this may be a good chance for you to meet me! You are more than welcome to tweet a message to me at @fusionofeffects on that night.

For more information or to purchase tickets for this event, please click here.

P.S There will also be a few more surprises at the party. You will have to find them out on that night!

Trendology: Vika Gazinskaya S/S 2013 Collection

This may be the first time I heard of Vika Gazinskaya, but her S/S 2013 collection is simply breathtaking.

There are 25 looks in this collection and many of the pieces are very experimental. Some of the silhouettes are very dramatic to create a larger than life image of the Gazinskaya girl. In order to add an extra fun factor to the collection, cartoon like clouds are introduced as the main print.

If you are looking for a basic collection, I am sorry to say you are not going to find anything from Vika Gazinskaya; however, if you are looking for fun pieces to wear once in awhile, Gazinskaya maybe your first few options on your S/S 2013 wardrobe list. I wonder how some pieces will look on Anna Dello Russo? Any guesses?

Please click here to see the complete collection.
