Wave of Inspirology: Croisière à Paris

In order to attract the arts crowd, many fashion houses have tried to promote their latest collections with artistic fashion short films. Today, I came across Elie Saab's Croisière à Paris and I would want to share this with you.

This short film is used for the promotion of the Resort 2013 collection. The imagery is simply beautiful here. The girls are looking amazing in the Resort pieces and since it is shot in Paris, there is no doubt I can feel the heavy Parisian vibe. To sum up this short film, I will say it is elegant, modern and romantic. What do you think?

Graphic[Mashup]: Round 3

It's time for a new round of Graphic[Mashup] and today I am happy to say I have an exclusive image to show you.

Olga Weber (Exclusive)

Olga Weber is very good at illustrating fashionable girls. Yesterday I received an email from her and it contained her latest work. I really like the Dolce & Gabbana dress on the girl and the little dog has made the image to look more playful. The orange background is what reminds me of fall. Nicely done!

Matias G Martinez

I always have my eyes on Matias' works but since he doesn't do fashion illustration often, this is why I did not have the chance to feature his works until now. Matias's take on the house of Christian Dior is beautiful and I really like the smooth graphics. I think Matias can really work on more digital fashion illustrations in the future.

Julia Slavinska

Julia is a big name this week as her latest works have been featuring in numerous  online publications. I really like her illustration touch on each photo and she can really capture the essence of each brand. Click here to see the entire series.

Robert Tirado

Robert's Alexander McQueen illustration is amazing. Even though it is in black and white, I just feel like this piece is full of energy. I would like to see a few more pieces from Robert on Alexander McQueen.

Helen Huang

Last week I showed you Helen's Fall image and today, I want to show you the Winter, a piece that is part of the 4 seasons series. I really like this piece as it can make me feel the cold and moody vibe of winter.

Fashion[Knowledge]: The Little Black Jacket: Chanel's Classic Revisited

Back in April, I wrote an entry about The Little Black Jacket project by Chanel and now these images are all published in a book.

If you have not heard of this project, this is about the celebration of Chanel's iconic little black jacket. All the photos are shot by Karl Lagerfeld and styled by Carine Roitfeld. Some of the celebrities in this book include Claudia Schiffer, Uma Thurman, Kanye West, Tilda Swinton, Baptiste Giabiconi, Yoko Ono and Sarah Jessica Parker. You can now purchase this book online at Indigo. I think this will be a perfect gift to someone who likes fashion, especially if he or she is a Chanel fan.

Trendology: Lanvin 2013 Resort Accessories and Shoes

While I am working on some holiday shopping ideas posts for this blog, I have come across Lanvin's 2013 Resort accessories. Since there are so many cool pieces from this particular collection, I have decided to make a separate post to showcase some of the items I like.

Most of the items are now available at Lanvin flagship stores or you can purchase them at Lanvin online store.

Stay tuned to this blog as I will also include some of the Resort items in the up coming group holiday posts.

Necklaces & Belts

Flowers continue to be a big element in this collection and I am with the blue/black flower necklace and the flower rings.

Wave of Inspirology: Louis Vuitton - Painting With Ribbons

I am clearly a Christian Borstlap fan ever since I saw the bag charms video he did for Louis Vuitton. Recently, he has done another short animation for the brand to promote the customized stripes service online.

The video is very playful and it somehow has a very strong retro vibe. After watching this video, I actually start to love the stripes too (especially the blue/yellow combination)! What do you think?

Art[s]ense: Ignasi Monreal

I have been in love with Ignasi's works for quite sometime now ever since I first saw his Alexander McQueen illustration. Recently I approached him and did an interview with him. This article is now published on Swide and you can click here to read it.

Fashion[Knowledge]: Grace: A Memoir

When you think of US Vogue, there are always 2 people's name that will pop up in your brain: Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington. Recently, Grace has released her memoir and I think this will be a good book on your Christmas shopping list.

In this book, not only will you get to know about her life and her time at Vogue, you also get to see some of her amazing illustrations. In my opinion, her illustrations are always so fascinating. They are whimsical, fun and each image can capture the essence of that particular scene (The Karl Lagerfeld with his cat illustration has been stuck in my mind ever since I first flipped through the book). You can purchase this book online at Indigo right now.

I love this! Prada illustrations by Grace!

How can I not love this piece? Most of the famous fashion people are in here!

Graphic[Mashup]: Round 2

Last week I debuted a new segment called the Graphic[Mashup] and till this moment, the responses are very positive! This week, I have found more amazing illustrations and want to share with each of you! Let's get ready for Round 2!

Anoma Paleebut

Anoma is a very talented illustrator and out of all the recent works she has done, this Prada one has really captured my heart. it's very simple, whimsical and cute. I wish she can illustrate a few more looks as I think she can create a great illustration series based on this collection.

Michael Sanderson

Michael Sanderson is always one of my favourites and recently he has been featured on B-Insider of Hudson's Bay. I really like this illustration, especially the Hudson's Bay jacket.

Lesley Barnes

Another great work from Lesley and I cannot stop looking at it. This time, her latest illustration is inspired by the Prada F/W 2012 look. Again, I am addicted to this collection so there is no reason for me not to like it.

Helen Huang

Helen has been working on a new series based on the 4 seasons and the first one she released this week is Fall. As always, her girl is very pretty and elegant. I am excited to see the next 3 pieces from this series.

Adrian Valencia

If you are a One Direction fan, you are going to love this illustration created by Adrian Valencia. I like how each member is illustrated in one colour. Now I wonder if he will work on The Wanted next, it will be interesting if he does it.

Roberto Sánchez

Once again, I am attracted to Roberto's illustration this week. This Burberry Prorsum F/W 2012 illustration is fantastic! I love the fox mask and the duck background. These are two of the main elements of this collection. Well done!

Ray of Inspirology: Quintessential Editorial by Uil Weber

When it comes to fashion photography, I always expect beautiful clothes and dramatic shots. This is one of them.

This editorial is shot by Uil Webe for Quintessential Magazine. The light has created a very dramatic mood to the shoot and I love the set design as well. Of course, the fashion ensembles on the model are beautiful and dramatic, which fit very well with the luxury concept.

What do you think?

Ray of Inspirology: Neptune's Daughters

When illustration is applied on fashion photography, the images always become more interesting because of fantasy touch. This editorial from Schön! is one of them that has caught my attention.

The images are shot by Zena Holloway and the illustration is done by Vesna Pesic. The entire shoot is very dreamy and the illustration touch has made the model looks more like an alien from outer space. Unlike the aliens you have seen in many of the sci-fi movies, this alien is very fashion forward, beautiful and playful.

Again, I would love to see more fashion magazines take this editorial approach as this is the way to develop more creative ideas.

Graphicology: Heroes

I love when an illustrator puts a personal touch on some of the iconic comic heroes and Anthony Taysub's works have recently caught my eyes.

The DC comics heroes Taysub has illustrated are very different than what I have seen before. Each character is very close to what we can imagine in real life and there is a vulnerable element which I find it very refreshing. I especially like Robin and Batman because their vibes are very different than what I have in mind. What do you think?

Ray of Inspirology: Red Hot

It's great to see when photographer is willing to push the envelope and here is a very nice example.

This editorial is shot by Tim Walker and it features Mario Cotillard. Marion is dressed up in Haute Couture pieces, which she looks so stunning in the images. The main reason I like about this editorial is the fact that Tim only uses 2 colours (black and red) to create some striking images. They are dark, playful and remind of the fairy tale world. Also, red is always the official colour of Christmas so it works very well with the concept of December (holiday) issue.

P.S Marion looks so stunning in Iris van Herpen piece!

Graphic[Mashup]: Round 1

Throughout these years, I have been introducing different illustrators and their works to you and I am sure you have your favourites. Back in the days, I did want to show you more of their works but some of the times they didn't have enough images for an entry. Because of that, starting from now, I am going to have a weekly section to showcase works by some of the illustrators I have featured before on here or/and on Swide.

Welcome to Graphic[Mashup].

Just like Roberto, when I think of Alexander McQueen, the 2 feather pieces from F/W 2009 collection will always come into mind. I think these 2 pieces Roberto illustrated can reflect the playfulness of the clothing pieces.

Comme des Garçons F/W 2012 is a very cool collection as the clothes are in 2D form. Juni is wearing one of my favourite dresses from this collection and she looks so cute in it.

J.Larkowsky

It's a given that J.Larkowsky's illustrations always excite me. This time, he has illustrated the Alexander McQueen S/S 2007 collection and I really love the details of this dress.

Spiros Halaris

Spiros has recently illustrated this piece featuring Prada's S/S 2013 collection. While I am still not a big fan of this collection, I can see why illustrators are in love with it because there are so many creative ideas they can do to enhance the collection.

Sunny Gu

A very playful illustration by Sunny Gu. I love the Moschino S/S 2013 piece and also, the flowers that create the dress. This makes me think of summer and I can't wait for it to come back.

Cristian has just created some Christmas ornaments for people to download and I love them very much. They are whimsical and contain the aesthetic of Cristian's illustration style. You can click here to download the ornaments!

Wave of Inspirology: Electric Holiday at Barneys New York

I have been hoping this kind of collaboration will happen in real life and it's finally here! After months of promotion, the Barneys New York holiday video is finally unveiled today!

As you may know, this short animation is a collaboration between Disney and Barneys New York. Minnie Mouse is the center of this story line and the story is about Minnie looking at a Lanvin dress and dreams about walking on the runway in Paris. A lot of fashion celebrities such as Anna Dello Russo, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lady Gaga and Bryan Boy make a guest appearance in this animation.

If you want to know what is each Disney character wearing in this video, here is the list:

Minnie Mouse - Lanvin (Alber Elbaz)
Mickey Mouse - Balenciaga (Nicolas Ghesquiere)
Goofy - Balmain (Olivier Rousteing)
Daisy Duck - Dolce & Gabbana
Snow White - Nina Ricci (Peter Copping)
Cruella de Vil - Rick Owens
Tiana - Proenza Schouler

Also, don't miss out the Electric Holiday collection as 25% of the sales wil lgo to the American Red Cross disaster relief.

[Wish]granted: Christmas 2012 Postcard

Christmas is almost here and once again, we are going to do a little postcard giveaway on our blog.

Each year, we collaborate with one of our favourite fashion illustrators to work on a limited production holiday postcard. In 2010, Helen Huang designed an Alexander McQueen F/W 2010 collection inspired postcard for us and in 2011, a Burberry F/W 2011 inspired postcard was created by Lisa Nishimura. The responses we received from these 2 postcards were very positive so this year, we have decided to continue this tradition.

This year, we have invited Wendy Ding to create the 2012 postcard. We have been a fan of her works for quite some time now so we are very honoured to be working with her this time. Unlike the previous years, this one is not your traditional holiday postcard. It is darker and will take you some time to digest the image.

Once again, we have only produced 250 pieces for this design and we have reserved 10 copies for our readers. If you want to see the image before anyone else (we will not unveil the image until later in December), here is what you have to do:

Send an email to us at info@fusionofeffects.com and tell us what is your favourite collection of this S/S 2013 season.

Only the first 10 people will get the postcard so you must act now or you will miss out the chance!

Good luck!

Graphicology: Louis Vuitton by Marguerite Sauvage

I just cannot have enough of Louis Vuitton this season because the clothes are just too magnificent. This collection also looks amazing in illustration form and today, I just discovered this series.

These illustrations are Marguerite Sauvage for Commons&Sense. I really like the comical vibe of these illustrations and the solid colour background can really bring the colourful clothing to life. These are some illustrations I would want to hang on my wall one day. What do you think?

Trendology: Ada Zanditon S/S 2013 Collection

I have been a fan of Ada Zanditon for quite some time now so it's exciting to be receiving some information on her S/S 2013 collection.

The title of this collection is called "Tigress Reign", which you can guess part of inspiration is coming from the tiger. Zanditon has also drawn inspiration from the military and the result is amazing. I really like the cut of this collection as some of the pieces are very structured. I am also in love with the metallic fabric which helps to create a futuristic vibe of this collection.

The above image is the campaign for this collection and it features Harriet Verney, who is the niece of Isabella Blow. Zanditon has also teamed up with easyJet Holidays to shoot a short film for her collection in Cyprus. The short film is very interesting and you can see the pieces in motion. Instead of showing you the look book, I think it will be a better option for you to see this short film.

Trendology: QUAMTA F/W 2012 Collection

QUAMTA is one of the brands I have my eyes on ever since I first talked about the brand here. Now the brand has released the latest F/W collection and once again, it has 3 distinctive series.

QUAMTA CLASSICS

When it comes to winter, I always want to have a bag that is made from 100% pure wool and it seems like the NOMAD collection will be best option. I really like the 12 Hour Bag and the nappa leather gives a nice elegant touch to the piece.

If you are a fan of ostrich leather, then you will love the CLASSICS collection. I really like the colour palette of this season for this series and once again, the designs of this series are amazing.

However, if wool and ostrich leather cannot satisfy your taste, you may want to consider to purchase the ultimate line - MONARCH. The bags in this series are all made of Nubuck Nile crocodile leather and they have a very raw and edgy vibe, which will remind you of the exotic places in South Africa.

So, what's your pick?

CLASSICS
