[Un]Discovers: Scot Woodman

Scot Woodman is one of the photographers that I discover on flickr and his works are amazing! His photos are like some kind of magnets that will attract you to look at and you will be dying to see what he has in store for us when he uploads the new photos. The above photo is an aurora piece I have collaborated with him and I am honored to be able to edit his photo.

I am so lucky I get to know this talented artist sometime ago and he agrees to let me do an interview with him. Here are the questions I have asked and I am sure you will jump out from your seat when you read one of the questions.

Hey Scot, so how did you get into photography?
I've always been interested in it. I've always loved taking pictures but I can remember back in about 2005 (my junior year of high school) I started looking through Vogue and Vanity Fair magazine and seeing the amazing photos by Annie Leibovitz really being like "I want to start taking pictures like this". So I started doing photography all the time.

Annie Leibovitz is actually one of the influences which leads me to photography. I just love her works! Well, since you are really into photography now, who are your inspirations?
There are so many people and things that inspire me that I couldn't even list them all. But some of my biggest Photographer inspirations are Rodney Smith, Annie Leibovitz, Heidi Slimane, Mario Testino, and Terri Richardson.

You basically have most of my favorites, no wonder I like your style. If you have to pick one of your photos that can most represent yourself, which one will you pick and why?
Well I have been doing a 365 project on flickr this year and I always try to take a picture that show myself. But I definitely would say that this photo best describes me. I can't really explain it, but it I know it just really does show a lot about who I am.

I know people are going to jump out from their seats when they read this. I heard that you are going to do a shoot with Lady GaGa in 2010, how did you get this deal?
I was contacted by the leader of her Street Team. He said he loved my work and said I was perfect for what he was looking for and asked if I was interested in shooting her. Of course I said yes and the rest is really history. Still no word on when the shoot will be, but it is for sure going to be in 2010.

Congrats on the deal and I am looking forward to see the photos! So, do you have any celebrity in mind that you want to do a shoot for him/her/them in the future (except Lady GaGa, which you will shoot her soon)?
I would really like to shoot any celebrity. But if I had to choose, I would LOVE to do a shoot with Nicole Kidman or Kate Winslet. Both of them are SO elegant and they both have amazing talents. I would also love to shoot Natalie Portman, Katy Perry, Jon Hamm, or Neil Patrick Harris.

Katy Perry, Natalie Portman and NPH are definitely on my list too. In the end, what's your ultimate goal in your photographer career?
I would not like to be famous, I would like to be a respected Photographer that is well known that people are inspired by and moved by with my photography. If I can inspire or move just one person with my Photography, I'll have met my goal.

------------------------------------

I do believe many of you will want to know him more other than knowing him as a photographer; therefore, here are some fun facts I have asked him.

Orange Juice or Tea?
Orange Juice by far with some Fresh Pineapple

Dog or Cat?
Dog. Preferably a Husky or a Pointer.

City or Countryside?
I equally love them both. I love the energy of the city and the tranquility and natural beauty of the countryside

Indoor or Outdoor Shoot?
Outdoor. Because I LOVE natural light

Prime Lens or Zoom Lens?
Prime Lens. I almost never take off my 50mm.

Annie Leibovitz or Hedi Slimane?
Do I have to pick? They both are AMAZING photographers. Annie Leibovitz is so classy and Hedi Slimane is so edgy. It's impossible for me to pick. LOL

Europe or North America?
Europe. I've never been and I dream of going there and filling up memory card after memory card there.

Alexander McQueen or Dior?
Alexander McQueen by far. Especially his Plato's Atlantis collection.

Tyra Banks or Heidi Klum?
I like both of them. But Heidi Klum seems so real and like such a sweet heart.

The Fame or The Fame Monster?
I will always like The Fame, but I'd have to say The Fame Monster. It's so different from The Fame and really makes me happy to see that she's thinking ahead already and that she doesn't want just one kind of sound, she wants to keep trying new stuff.

Thanks Scot for taking some time to do the interview with me and I am looking forward to see his new photos. You should check both his official website and also his flickr stream. I promise, you will not be disappointed! Also, he has started a facebook fanpage recently, come here and be his fan and get the latest update from him!
