[Un]Discovers: Edwin Cabrera

Edwin Cabrera is another photographer that will showcase his fashion photography works in Sleeping Giant Gallery on March 12-18. He is not only a fashion photographer, but he also owns a fashion blog and we do believe you should take a look when you have time. It is funny that Marcus, our photographer has realized he and Edwin have shot the same model before. Anyway, we have done a mini interview with him and we want you to know more about him before the exhibit.

Hey Edwin, so who are your inspirations?
I get my inspiration from a lot of things-painting, illustrations, design, music.etc. But for photography it’s fashion that inspired me to go into photography. The beautiful images I’ve seen in fashion magazine motivated me to create and capture the images in head. And there’s something really seductive about fashion photography because the way it’s not just only capturing reality but interpreting it and mixing it with fantasy.
There are so many great photographers that are inspiring. I love Mario Sorrenti ‘s magnificent way of using lights, Nick Knight way of incorporating modern technology in his works , and of course the legends like Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Herb Ritts, Bruce Webber Guy Bourdin. I love how these artists manage to create iconic images that will live forever and will be constantly source of inspiration to others.

We love Nick Knight's new McQueen's ad and we can't take our eyes off it. What is your ultimate goal for your photographer career?
My goal is to be a great and successful fashion photographer.

If you can pick any celebrities or models in the world to do a shoot, who will you pick and what kind of shoot do you want to do?
I think it would be really interesting to do fashion spread with the Obama family inspired by Diego Velázquez’ “Las Meninas” wearing American designers like Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein etc.

If you want to see more photos that are taken by Edwin,  you should take a look at his official website. We are encouraging you to come down on March 12 for the Fashin with the O show so that you can meet him in person!
