Hi Hyun, since people in Toronto may not have heard about you, would you mind giving a brief description about yourself?
Korean designer Hyun Yeu is the driving force behind the label ‘ADO LES SCENTS’. He graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 2008. In 2009 he won the Frans Molenaar competition, did an internship for Viktor & Rolf and started his own menswear label. With ‘ADO LES SCENTS’, Yeu sets his standard for menswear – elegant high quality menswear in innovative shapes and fabrics. The label aims at young-minded men that are not afraid to stand out.

You were an intern for Viktor and Rolf and it is one of my favorite brands right now. No wonder I can totally relate to your collection. When did you create Ado Les Scents? What kind of clothing are we expecting from this brand?
I started my label one year ago, ADO LES SCENTS sets the standard for menswear. The label vision manifests itself in elegant, high-quality menswear with innovative shapes and fabrics. ADO LES SCENTS aims for a young-minded crowd. These men are not afraid to stand out and show their vulnerable side.

I like the risky element in this brand and the shapes of the clothes are amazing! So, which fashion designers have influenced your style? Where do you usually get your inspiration from?
I am inspired by designers like helmut lang and martin margiela. I usually get my inspiration from urban sadness.

Urban Sadness? That's an interesting inspiration. What is the theme of the A/W wear? Are there any special details we should focus on?
‘Rain’. ‘Rain’ is a menswear collection based on having fun on a rainy day. Playful, yet chic, practical, yet elegant. Shielded by dark inconspicuous shades, enlightened by colorful elements. This collection is about daring to face the rain with a smile.

I am not a big fan of rain but I think if I could wear your collection, I will definitely face the rain with smile. Are you planning to have womenswear for Ado Les Scents in the future? If not, will you plan to make another brand for your women's collection?
I am preparing womens wear for spring summer 2011. It will be showing in amsterdam international fashion week in july. My women's wear is more about the fantasies women have and is more conceptual and couture minded.

I am looking forward to see your womenswear collection in July, make sure you keep me posted. What do you think of the menswear in the world right now? Last but not least, so you think that men should take risk on trying out new fashion styles? If so, what is your ideal men's fashion?
Menswear is growing now, both market and level of tastes. These past 10 years, men's fashion has changed rapidly, and i expect the changes will even be faster in the next 10 years. The biggest change has been that men are not limited anymore in what they wear, they have managed to step over the boundaries. This process will continue, but i think it will not go to be that every man will wear skirts and high heals. masculinty will still be the key to men's fashion.
