[Un]Discovers: Ada Zanditon

I get to know Ada Zanditon on twitter and after flipping through her amazing official website, there is a voice inside me and says, "One day, you have to feature this amazing fashion designer on the blog".  Today is the dream comes true day because Ada has finally landed on this blog and here are the questions I have for her!

Hello Ada, thank you so much for taking your time answer these questions. To start off this interview, let me just ask how did you become a fashion designer?
I was 6, we were in a supermarket, my mother and I, there was a copy of Vogue, there was a temper tantrum.... an epic one.... and that was that.
And here I am now...

That's very epic and interesting.  I am so glad you are a fashion designer now because I like your collections a lot! What kind of adjectives would you use to describe your collections?
Innovative elegance is the underlying theme.

Elegance is definitely what I can see from your fashion pieces! What do you think of the fashion industry right now? Is there any style you want to explore in the future?
I want to explore everything always, but style is not something I think of consciously constructing. My approach and methadology is much more a mathematical, geometric and architectural process. The industry is complex but completely fascinating. I would not wish to work in any other field.

I notice that currently there is no menswear in you brand. Are you planning to create a menswear collection in the future? If so, what kind of style will we expect to see from you?
I created menswear for Patrick Wolf, the entire album and tour wardrobe for his album The bachelor.I loved creating this and it was great to work with Patrick as he is incredibly unique and talented. I am in no rush to do a menswear collection because creating one off pieces is very different to designing, creating, marketing and selling a full collection. I do not embark upon a collection lightly. It is my prerogative to create a strong brand with a clear message of innovation, sustainability and a key part of that is sustainable economy. It is very expensive to sample, manufacture and market a collection. When I do add a menswear range to my brand's portfolio it will be with the same strength and due process as my womenswear.

All right, I will be looking forward to see your menswear collection one day. Please keep me posted! I also know that you are an illustrator. How would you describe your works? Do your drawings in any way connect to your fashion works?
I use my illustrations as prints on my garments but I also create illustrations as stand alone pieces that have been exhibited in Russia, Paris and London.
My illustrations are often described as psychedelic, kaleidoscopic and complex. I dont' know how to describe them best because when I draw, they flow from my subconscious mind naturally onto the paper. To me, drawing is like breathing, it is something spontaneous and does not require any thinking.  It is like trying to describe why the inside of your head is the way it is. They are the visual representation of my inner world.

------------------------------------
Now let's take a closer look on what she likes. The following choices will for sure reflect her personality!

London or Paris?
both - maybe we can tow them towards each other and just put them in a blender .... and call it Pardon?

Spring or Autumn?
Neither I don't like to attach to certain times I like to be exactly in the moment in the here and now.

Purple or Red?
Outrageous - they are inseparable.

Vanilla or Chocolate Ice-cream?
Finally, an easy question Vanilla of course!

Blueberry or Blackberry?
Blueberries always

Lace or Chiffon?
Chiffon digitally printed with my illustrations of course!

Sneakers or High Heels?
high heeled sneakers... no joke my favourite heels are like totally plain black plimsolls style wedges. I love them.

Rock or R&B?
Neither thank you, Kylie, Klaus and Moondog, thank you.

Harry Potter or Edward Cullen?
Neither! I am totally Team Jacob.... and am at a loss to understand how one could think differently.

Easter or Christmas?
Christmas ! especially at Beyond The Valley this Christmas as I am creating the Christmas Window! and an exhibition of my illustration and fashion in the store... So you can start looking forward to that now...

This is the end of the interview session I have with Ada and I am absolutely honored to be able to have her on this blog! My mind is telling me that her upcoming collection is going to be amazing and I am sure everyone who is reading this now will be excited to see the show as well. Stay tune to this blog because I will be posting the latest runway show from Ada when I have the latest scope! All photos are courtesy of Ada Zanditon and you should take a look at her official website to see her previous collections (the photos you are seeing in this entry are all from her F/W collection)!
