Trendology: Erika Mizuno Bear Skirt

Recently I have come across this really unique Bear Skirt and after doing some research, I was able to get in touch with the designer, Erika Mizuno, to get more information on how she created this dress.

According to Erika, this dress was the 1st year school assignment at Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium. Her inspiration was from this idea: "human beings and animals live together in one place".  After doing some research on animals, shapes and atmosphere, she picked little bear as the subject and created a little story for this dress:
Once upon a time .....
In a deep forest there was a little bear. One day She was walking in the forest and discovered a small village where there were human beings living there. She was looking at the state of human's life from some thick growth of weeds. She saw a lot of fashionable girls and envied them. In the end, she tried to adopt their fashion styles into her life....

For this design, Erika has combined the little bear with a girl's dress. At the back of the dress, the hollow pattern is her interpretation of snow flake because polar bear is her favorite type of bear. I find this dress to be very inspiring especially when you look at the front, the bear basically covers the face of the model. The design is fresh and brilliant!

Tomorrow I am going to show you another dress from her and that dress is actually a commissioned piece for an exhibit in Hong Kong! Stay tuned!
