Walk the Walk: Thierry Mugler S/S 2012 Menswear Collection

Thierry Mugler starts off the Paris Fashion Week with a bang!

In my opinion, I think last season's Thierry Mugler menswear is a major flop as the Mugler DNA is not well presented in this collection. For this season, Nicola Formichetti finally has injected back some signature DNA elements to the menswear.

First there is the return of the alien neon green color. I always think this color is signature to the brand because the first time I heard of this brand was when my mom bought a neon green futuristic blouse back in the 90s (this surely brings me back lots of memories). Also, the robotic armor pieces are finally back in place and you can see that on some models, especially the last walk of the runway show. Lastly, the futuristic vibe is back on track and the layering technique is much better than last season.

Overall, this collection is inspired by scuba diving and cycling apparel (and I heard it has something to do with the Italian vibe but let's just not get there for now). True to this brand's root, there is at least 50% of the collection is not "ready to wear" -friendly. The coloar palette is refreshing as neon orange, green and lavender are the highlight colors of this collection. I also like some of the sharp cutting pieces too as this element injects attitude to the person who is wearing them. The neon green shoes are very attractive and I think people will go crazy over them. Overall, this is a big improvement for Mugler and finally this brand can slowly climb back up the fashion ladder!

No, I still do not understand how this collection can associate to that video. It's just gimmick I believe.

Pos:
- Amazing color palette, the alien neon green is the DNA of this brand .
- The sharp cutting on some pieces are amazing.
- The shoes are something we will die for.
- Great use of fabrics, some pieces really work well together.
- The sliced open suit is very cool and I would not mind to give that a try.

Cons:
- The denim pieces do not go too well with the collection.
- That green/purple one piece "dress" should be edited out.

Eye Candies:
- The sheer cyclist top with sequin embellishment
- The shoes
- The lavender suit
- The white copped jacket suit
