[Un]Discovers: Flaminia Saccucci

The Central Saint Martins fever continues on this site and today, I have another great designer to introduce to you. Her name is Flaminia Saccucci.

Because of her amazing textile print collection, Flaminia has become the winner of the L’Oréal Professional Young Talent Award at the Central Saint Martins BA graduate show. Today, it is my pleasure to have her on this site and answer few of my questions. Readers, it's time to have name on your fashion designer directory!

Hi Flaminia, thank you so much for taking time from your busy schedule to answer some of my questions. First off, will you be able to give a brief description of yourself?
I am just a young designer, very passionate about her work that never gives up.

Never give up is probably the most important quality a designer should have in order to pursue your dream. So I am curious, what was the main reason why you wanted to study fashion design?
This answer is simple: I always have a great interest in arts , fabrics and society.

Now you have said you are interested in arts, I finally understand why your pieces are very artistic.  So out of all the designers in the world, which one do you look up to?
There are many designers I liked both from our times and from the past.

In today's fashion scene,  the designers I like are Raf Simons, Phoebe Philo and Riccardo Tisci while from the past I truly admire the work of Cristobal Balenciaga. The common factor among these designers is that they are all true to their style.

I have to agree with you that all the designers you like are always true to their fashion visions and they constantly create amazing collections. Now, please tell us more about your collection. Is print going to be the signature element of your brand in the future?
The collection is mainly made of gardens landscapes and tyres screen printed on latex, mixed with digital printed leather and silk.

I had started to research on tyres at the beginning of creating this collection because I was attracted by their texture,- the smoothness but hardness of it. I love fabrics and their texture and have been looking at differents combinations in order to obtain the feeling of a real yet wereable tyre. In the end, latex was the final result of my research.

I am attracted to lace because of its sharpness, softness and even the smell of it. To me, it is a sensorial attraction!

My aim for this collection was to produce something with the unexpected use of latex- not expressly to be sexy but with sharp and feminine silhouettes and prints. In order to achive this femininity I drew up alongside a softer garden landscape print to the graphicity of the tyre.

Since I love to manipulate prints and fabrics, these 2 elements will definitely be presented in my future work!

I have to admit, you collection is amazing and congrats on winning the L’Oréal Professional Young Talent Award. Well, I know you are from Italy, so what do you think is the main difference between British and Italian fashion?
The main difference is that in England the overall fashion is more exprimental and is a great platform for new emerging designers.

The point you just gave is probably the reason why I see more emerging designers in London than other places in the world. Now you have graduated from Central Saint Martins, what will be your next move? Are you planning to continue to build your brand?
I only graduated a few weeks ago, so now I am considering the differnts opportunity I have been presented with. It may be a job in a fashion house or I may sell my collection to a store in London.
