Game[On]: BIG at ROM

When it comes to fashion, I always love to look at the clothes up close. The reason is because I want to see the fabric and also the structure of the piece. Today, I had the chance to be one of the first few groups to visit the new exhibition - BIG at ROM and it was a very valuable experience.

Christian Dior Haute Couture by John Galliano (S/S 2011 collection)

BIG is an exhibition curated by Dr. Alexandra Palmer, Dr Sarah Fee and Anu Liivandi. It showcases some amazing textiles and clothing pieces (40 artifacts in total) throughout different periods of fashion history. While there are amazing pieces from Christian Dior Haute Couture (500+ labor hours on this piece), Alexander McQueen and Tom Ford for YSL, I am more amused by the textiles in this exhibition.

The intricate design of each piece of cloth is not something we can see everyday, which you can understand why they are like gems to the fashion industry. I can also assume a lot of designers (from Christopher Bailey to Dolce & Gabbana) are inspired by these historical textiles. If you are a big fan of fashion, I completely recommend you to go check this exhibition out before Fall 2013.

Also, if you like to visit museums on a Friday night, then you will want to mark down November 9th on your calendar. On that night, ROM will have the ROMFriday Night Live again and it is all about BIG. Not only will you be able to see the exhibition, there will also be a Fashion Cares 25 Retrospective as well. It should be a very memorable experience for people who are going to that event that night. For more information, please visit ROM online.

P.S You can follow my instagram to see some other pieces from this exhibition. (The YSL gown was amazing!)
