[Un]Discovers: Maxwell Lander

Today is the 3rd day of our exclusive photographer coverage for the "Fashin with the O" show on March 12-18. Today, we have Maxwell Lander and the following paragraphs are what she wants us to know. which includes her inspiration, her goal as a photographer and which celebrity she will want to take photos for in the future.

I'm 23 and have been pursuing photography seriously for a couple years now, but really have only been taking it seriously as a career for the last year. i'm mostly self taught outside of a couple of friends and a class or two at the Toronto School Of Art, where i attended for a year a while back. i don't find myself drawn to a lot of photographic works, and outside of a couple big names (eg. helmut newton, erwin olaf) tend to be inspired by younger photographers i find on the internet.
a couple examples:

gee kayacan - http://www.flickr.com/photos/gkayacan/

I think the goal of my photography career is having a photography career. i think there are many photographic genres that i could be happy in - fashion, portraiture, even commercial - and as long as i work enough and am still able to do my own personal work, i'll be a happy camper. I'm not opposed to fame though :)

i don't tend to fantasize about shooting celebrities. i know there some out there that i have acknowledged wanting to shoot before, but i don't seem to be able to remember any of them. i'm pretty into pushing people who model for me, so really enjoy it when i get to shoot people i know really well. i would have loved to have been the photographer for madonna's sex book (Steven Meisel), as i think shooting madonna back in the days when she was still scandalous and boundary pushing would have been amazing. i would love to think of someone that controversial now, but am finding it difficult to come up with anyone..."

We really like the photographers that have inspired your style, they all look very great. We think, maybe if you shoot Lady Gaga instead of Madonna these days, it might be very fun to do it since she is all about controversial. Thank you so much and we wish you all the best in the future. If you want to meet Max in person, please come to the gallery on March 12! We will be waiting for you!
