Fashion [Re]wind: The Von Dutch hat

The Von Dutch hat was an iconic piece during the first few years of the new millennium. Named after 20th century biker artist Kenny "Von Dutch" Howard, the Californian clothing brand used denim, funky colours, diamante' studs and camouflage patterns to gentrify the trucker hat, quickly becoming a must-have for celebrities like Paris Hilton, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears. (à: I totally remembered this. When I was in university, 8 out of 10 people were wearing Von Dutch and I felt like an outsider since I am never a hat fan. At that moment, Von Dutch could totally build up a Von Dutch army to destroy other brands!)

Remember the price tag on these hats? They used to sell here in Toronto at swank boutiques in Yorkville like ICE and Over the Rainbow. If I remember correctly a Von Dutch hat could easily set you back over $100 - and that's if you didn't get the baby pink one. I opted for a Triple Five Soul imitation trucker hat at Aritzia, which I think I paid $25 for. Much better considering I wore it once. (à: I believe they cost around $125 per hat and to be honest, I do believe the use of material is very interesting. However, I am with you here, I am more a fan of Triple Five Soul at that moment)

Is there a Von Dutch hat hall of fame somewhere in Southern California because I would love to peruse all the various styles and editions the brand came out with. Here are some pictures to wet your appetite.

And just an FYI, in case this post should conjure up any desires, the signature Von Dutch hat now sells on their online store for a handsome $17.00 US. (à: Now this is news to me. I actually did not know this brand still exist in the world right now! Maybe I should just get one so that I can remember some glory moments I had back in university [maybe not])
