[Un]Discovers: Zanete Auzina

FAT (Alternative Fashion Week) is almost here and just like last year, this blog is going to feature a few designers who will be showing their F/W collection on the runway.

First up, we have Zanete Auzina who is from Latvia. I really like her collections as they have this romantic vibe that suits my taste a lot. Without further ado, let's read the following interview I have with her!

Hello Zanete, it's an honor to be able to feature you on this site. So, what made you want to become a fashion designer? Was this the career you wanted to do ever since you were small?
My childhood dreams were not related to the desire of becoming a fashion designer. One of my first dreams was to become a ballet dancer. And then I drastically changed my mind and hoped to become a Pirate Master. My parents were the ones who saw my ability and talent,  therefore helped me to choose fashion designer as my profession. I graduated from Riga Design and Art School and Baltic International Academy.

From ballet dancer to pirate master to fashion designer, that was a drastic change! Now I am curious, who are the designers you look up to? What have you learn from them?
First of all, I look up to designers in the history of fashion. Right now my sight is set on collection with delicate and intellectual ideas, which author has an outstanding mathematician capacity. In this case my favorites of AW collections are Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy, Maison Martin Margiela, Dries van Noten, Prada, Jil Sander, Haider Ackermann and mens collections from Ann Demeulemeester and Prada. Each of them has unique features which help to make fashion industry blossoms. You can't borrow talent or signature from other fashion designers, but you can learn how to succeed by realize your abilities in life.

I do have to agree you can't borrow signature looks from other designer, but they will inspire you to realize your abilities. In your own words how will you describe your brand? What is the signature element in your collections?
Zanate Auzina company has consciously try to abstain from aggressive commercial activities but rather prefer building the brand gradually to gain reputation. This approach is considered to be the golden path of maintaining artistically high-probe design because it requires a a good hand-making skills which guarantees individualism and manufacture original designs. "Zanete Auzina" production is based on synthesis of color, texture and form, thus presenting the code to combine artictic fantasy with modern and practical application - comfort of wear and uniqueness of style. The objective of Zanete Auzina as a designer is to provide clothing for any situation of live giving ground and freedom of combination, thus changing the mood of effect that the mood of outfit can provide.

Now, will you be able to tell me what is the inspiration for this F/W collection?
Wind, birds and Jan van Eyck.

Wind, birds and Jan Van Eyck, that is a very interesting combination. So, would you be doing menswear in the future? If so, would that be any common element between the menswear and the womenswear?
I hope I will have this opportunity. Only common element would be my signature but themes of collections would be different.

What will you be working on after FAT? Will you be able to give us a hint on what we will expect to see in your S/S 2012 collection?
We are already working on  the SS 12 collection. Certainly this collection will be very feminine in which I will develop my experience as fashion designer.
