Hi Ryan, I am glad you are letting me to feature you on this site. Please let me and my readers know, what made you want to get into the photography business? How many years have you been in this field?
I’ve always been inspired by imagery, so from a fairly young age I knew I wanted to do this for a living. I’ve been shooting professionally for 4 years, but shooting personal work for 12 years.
Your works can totally reflect you as a very experienced photographer and within those 12 years, I am sure you must have learnt a lot of things about photography! How will you describe your photography style?
Moody, dark,playful, dramatic.
Those 4 adjectives are what I can use when describing your works. Well, I know you do different kinds of photography, which one is the most challenging?
They are all challenging in their own ways. The commercial work can be very challenging on a technical level. The personal work is more about the challenge to constantly be evolving and growing as an artist.
Now I am curious, out of all the projects you have done till now, which one can best represent you as a photographer? Why?
I’d say perhaps my rabbit/pig series that was shot in the Florida Everglades. The reason of it is because it represents a culmination of where my work has been moving which contains dark landscapes with mysterious figures/characters interacting in that space. The images have a nightmarish sense to them but are also a little whimsical.
To me, that series is very dark yet dreamy at the same time. It is definitely my cup of tea. I know you are having you CONTACT exhibit at the Sleeping Giant Gallery right now, so can you tell me about your exhibit?
This show is a collection of my personal landscape work from the past five years. The
landscapes were shot all over North America, from Newfoundland, California, the Appalachian Mountains and the prairies to name a few locations.
I am looking forward to see your exhibit and I am sure it will be fantastic! If you could do a creative shoot with unlimited budget, what kind of shoot would you want to do? What kind of imaginary would you want to achieve?
I’d love to continue to build on combining landscapes/locations with figures/ characters to create the dark, eerie images I love to make. So with an unlimited budget I’d travel the world to find some very remote and haunting locations.
