For the first day of Milan Fashion Week, Frida Giannini showed a very strong and stunning Gucci F/W 2013 collection.
Palm leaves print and houndstooth print are two of the big elements in this collection. I really like how the leaves print is applied on the sleeves and the side of a dress. When it comes to houndstooth, it is all about playing with different sizes, which helps to create great illusion. Aside from the prints, I am also in love with the crocodile pieces, especially the peplum jacket.
The evening wear series is very stunning as Frida uses a lot of sequins, feathers to decorate the pieces. Some of the pieces remind me of the art deco period because of the symmetrical designs. I have a very good feeling one of these pieces will make it to the cover of a major magazine in this coming season.
Overall, Frida has pretty much nailed the collection again and there is definitely something for everyone. I am excited to see what she has in store for us next season. At the same time, my illustration mind is already cooking up some ideas, so stay tuned.
Pros:
- The palm leaves pattern is a very nice touch to the collection. I especially like the yellow version of it.
- Combining houndstooth and palm leaves print together in one collection is not an easy task but Frida just knows how to make it work.
- There are a lot of silhouette options in this particular collection and there is definitely something for everyone.
- The evening pieces are very eye catchy and I am sure they will show up in many editorials in the coming season.
- How can you now love those black booties?
Cons:
- I wish some of this collection's elements could be used on some of the handbags.
Eye Candies:
- Palm leaves print suit
- Crocodile leather peplum jacket
- Gold and green feather gown
- Exaggerated houndstooth blouse
- The black booties
