Trendology: Eolith F/W 2014 & Niapsou F/W 2014

Every runway show has a stand out garment for those lucky enough to be in the audience. What makes a garment stand out is different for each person. As a former retailer I look for items which are eye catching, innovative by design, yet sellable at the same time. This is a combination many designers struggle to find. In my opinion they need to be the perfect combination of creative and commercial. That being said, when these looks come down the runway I instinctually reach for my camera and start snapping. Last week at FAT (Fashion Art Toronto), I sat bolt upright when these two gems drift out from the backstage...

First up was EOLITH's layered sheer dress. This flowing raw silk like fabric for fall 2014 was warm, inviting and weightless. The earthy browns and ink blues were calm and sophisticated.  The neck line begged for a crisp fall breeze while the sheerness of the fabric slowly said farewell to summer's warmth. The end result is a visually stunning, well thought out garment.

I must be drawn to blue at the moment, because this dress from NIAPSOU also commanded my attention. The rich blue was complimented by the golds and reds in this incredible African print. The result is energizing and almost regal. The length is playful yet conservative.  The cut, fitted just above the chest and then exploding in volume as it drops to the hem,  makes for the perfect combination of style and ease of wear.
