Walk the Walk: Valentino S/S 2016 Menswear Collection

Think Global Village.

Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli presented the Valentino S/S 2016 menswear collection in Paris yesterday and this collection is probably the most interesting one created by the duo to date. From Hawaiian prints to Chinese motifs, from punk to military, there are just so many international cultural flavours in this collection. When I first looked at this collection, an adventurous and slightly rebellious young man instantly popped up in my head. The designers are definitely targeting a younger demographic in this coming season as there is not a single suit presented in this runway show.

Patchworks, denims and Hawaiian floral prints are some of the major elements in this collection. The silk-cotton souvenir jackets with the embroideries are sporty with an elegant touch, whereas the military pieces show a more masculine and raw side of a Valentino man. When it comes to the accessories, the sneakers with the weaving pattern are stunning, and I just cannot get enough of the leather backpacks.

Even though Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli have shifted gears for the Valentino man, there is still one thing remains the same, and that is the couture touch on the garments. From the silhouettes to the attention to details, everything in this collection shows the impeccable craftsmanship of the design team. I personally am excited to see what the duo will be creating for the S/S 2016 womenswear collection.

Pros:
- This collection is a good definition of global village. It consists of elements from different cultures from around the world.
- Loving those silk-cotton souvenir jackets. Those prints are amazing!
- Love the weaving prints on the shoes. The embroideries are also great on many of the outerwear pieces.
- The denims are all handmade in Rome, and the denim patches long coat has really caught my eyes.
- My eyes are on the leather backpacks and the portfolio cases.
- Thumbs up to Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli for making this collection so young and playful.
