Graphicology: Disney Artworks by Martin Hsu

I have been a big fan of Martin Hsu's works for a very long time already and recently he is invited to work on 2 pieces for the WonderGround Gallery, located at the Disneyland Resort in Los Angeles. The two pieces of art works are based on Finding Nemo and the classic Mickey Mouse. I really the Asian elements in these 2 paintings, which make them unique. If you are going to be in Disneyland in LA in the next few weeks, make sure you drop by WonderGround Gallery and take a look at Martin's great works!

Nick DeFina

I met Nick DeFina when I was attending a gallery show this year and his abstract works totally blow my mind away. I am always amazed by how he can transform one simple snail image into so many forms. Simon Procter

I admire Simon Procter's works a lot so when he agreed to let me feature him on this blog, I was very excited. His works are very artistic and they always make my eyes glow. Martin Hsu, a great illustrator I like ever since I saw his works on flickr. His works are always stunning and I love how the chinese culture elements blend so well in his works. Samantha Cole, a british designer who caught my eyes with her womenswear collection. The fashion pieces are so chic, edgy and stylish that I will want to see them in many editorials. Graphicology: Sanrio’s 50th Family Vacation

I am so proud of my friend and I am thinking about getting this to hang on my wall!

As many of you know, this year is Sanrio's 50th anniversary and Sanrio has commissioned some illustrators to work on a celebration piece. Martin Hsu, one of my great illustrator friends, has been picked and the illustration below is what he has done for Sanrio. I am really loving the concept of this art piece and every character is enjoying him/herself in this family vacation!

[Un]Discovers: Martin Hsu

7 Waves of Illusion has finally come to an end and today this artist is from United States. His name is Martin Hsu and I have been following his flickr link for quite some time now. I really love his paintings and today and I am just happy that he is willing to be one of my featured artists. Let's read what kind of questions I have for him.

Hey Martin, thanks so much for being the last guest of this special feature week! First, I really want to know, how did you become a painter?
Interestingly, I didn't start painting until much later in my life. Studying animation back in school was always more about pencil on paper than paint on canvas. I guess what prompted me to start painting was a lot of my friends around me started painting and showing in galleries. It seemed really fun and interesting so I thought I'd try it out. I'm still very much an amateur and have much to learn about painting in general. All very exciting stuff though.

[On]Air: For The Love of Tiger

Martin Hsu, an illustrator that I really like is going to have an exhibition in Munky King in LA from February 11 to March 11. The opening n This show will feature new art works by Martin Hsu and Andrew Brandou and as you can read from the title, this show will have the tiger theme since in the Chinese calender, this is the year of the tiger.

Here, we have the first piece by Martin and there is a meaning behind this. Usually tigers are fierce and children are scared of them; however, tigers are becoming one of the endangered animals on Earth right now and the children in this art piece are having the tiger hoods on and gathering around to protect the Tiger Tree. In other words, the children are asking us to protect the forest and help save to save the Earth.

Graphicology: Lucky Tiger Baby

I always admire Martin Hsu's works and I am waiting to feature him (you know what to do Martin!). His paintings always give me a fairy tale feeling but with an ancient Chinese art twist. Recently he has produced a postcard for Chinese New Year. The Tiger baby does have a buddha look and I think the result is fresh.
