Ray of Inspirology: Brighter Days

As a fan of Mike Lewis, I am so exciting to show you this new editorial!

This series is featured in Modo Magazine and it is mostly in monotone. As always, I love the compositions of these images and the slightly dark and bold vibe makes the entire series to be more interesting. My favourite image is the portrait shot as the hat casts a very interesting shadow on the model's face.

What do you think?

Ray of Inspirology: She Moves in Mysterious Ways

Gif is the new trend in the fashion photography world and recently, Mike Lewis has created these stunning gifs for his new editorial.

The animations in these images are very subtle, but they help to create the mysterious vibe of this series.  From styling to makeup & hair, everything is so perfect here to turn Dervla into a femme fatale figure. As usual, Mike has nailed this shoot and out of all the images, my favourite is the last one in this post.

Yes, I am hungry for Mike Lewis' works and finally he has something for me to see on Papercut Magazine!

Mike once again collaborated with stylist Luis Rajiv for this stunning editorial. The feeling of this series is very futuristic and I am in love with the styling! The colour light is giving a big kick to the images (look at the red light!). Below are my favourites and you can click here to see the rest.

Art[s]ense: Lace: The interpretation by photographers and illustrators

This is probably one of the most challenging entries I have written for Swide to date, and I am very proud of the outcome...

Few weeks ago, I received a request from the Swide team that they would want me to write an entry on the lace material in order to celebrate the new lace sunglasses collection. So to make this entry interesting, I asked the emerging photographers and illustrators who I have featured before to submit some cool lace related works. Also, I did some research on some of the most iconic lace related editorials and found some nice photos for this entry. The whole experience was amazing and I just want to take this opportunity to thank all the photographers and illustrators who have sent me his/her work to complete this entry.

To read what I have to say about lace and see the amazing works from the artists, you can click here.

Ray of Inspirology: Miss 60s

Yet another amazing editorial by Mike Lewis!

Mike's latest editorial is now featured on Fantasticsmag and the theme is the 60s. Kyle Evely is doing an amazing job styling Autumn Kendrick and as usual, Mike has done an amazing job capturing the best angle of the model! It seems like Mike's photography style is adding a softer vibe now and I really like it!

Ray of Inspirology: Nachtüberfall (Night Raid)

I can never get enough of Mike Lewis photos so I was very excited when I received this editorial in my mail box. The style is slightly different as the images are leaning towards a more monotone approach with a hint of Frank Miller style. Luis Rajiv has done an amazing job by styling Sandra in this shoot and I cannot get enough how bold the model looks like in many of the images. What a stunning editorial! Bravo!

Here is more information of the editorial:

Ray of Inspirology: Prepitary Academy

It's been awhile since I last posted some photos by Mike Lewis and I am sure you are hungry for more of his works.

Recently, Fantasticsmag has showcased one of Mike's set and it is a military inspired editorial. The images are very crisp and bold and I am loving the clothing choice by James. Gavin Dunne, the model in this editorial, actually has some good facial features and I am sure I will be seeing more of him on the runway or editorials in the future.

Well done Mike!

Ray of Inspirology: The Seventh Veil

One of my favorite fashion photographers and one of my favorite stylists have teamed up again to create a fantastic editorial!

In the latest issue of 12 Magazine, Mike Lewis has teamed up with Luis Rajiv to create a stunning black and white shoot. the models here are Amanda Dillon and Hernan Sanchez from Next Models. This photography set is an homage to "The Seventh Seal". The mood is very gloomy and I am loving the cold vibe of this series. This duo never disappoints me and I am looking forward to see what they will produce next.

Icon: I Scream Awards - Mike Lewis

It's the second day of our I Scream Awards feature and today, we have Mike Lewis! As many of you may know, we are huge fans of his works (and we even did an [Un]Discovers edition about him) so we are very happy he has made it to the list! Let's see what he has to say about this year and the future plan in 2011!

Photographer: Marcus Kan
Makeup: Markus Timothy
Stylist: Colton Rice
Clothing: 69 vantage, The Refinery, C'est Moi

What was the most memorable thing you had done this year with your career? Why?
It's hard to pinpoint the most memorable thing of the past year. I moved to Toronto about a year ago from the West coast and basically decided to rebuild my entire book from the ground up. I've just been shooting constantly. I've had my work published in several Canadian and International fashion magazines, I've worked with some iconic clothing designers (like David Dixon) and have been flown overseas to shoot a job in Portugal. This year has been a whirlwind for me.

How do you view the fashion scene in Toronto right now?
To be completely honest, I love the fashion scene in Toronto. It's not huge but it's certainly not small either. The people are accessible and approachable. There is a strong sense of community amongst designers and photographers, stylists, makeup artists, etc. Everyone's kind of fighting the good fight. Sure, we all wish we made more money, had larger markets, were paid fairly and promptly, whatever... But the thing is, if it were easy everyone would do it. Because let's face it, this industry is so much fun. When I moved to Toronto in October of 2009, I instantly had a sense that this city is bursting with creative energy. You could literally feel it. Everyone I met (mostly in the fashion scene) was so excited about what they were working on and who they were working with. I was fortunate enough to meet up with James Nixon (of Fantastics Mag) who really opened my eyes to the inner-workings of the fashion industry in Toronto. That's the real beauty of Toronto I think. Amazing people will meet with you and they will help you if they can. I honestly believe this is a very special time and place, one that might not be truly recognized and appreciated until it has passed.

What are you aiming to achieve with your career in 2011?
For me, it's always the slow climb. Quite simply, I just want to get better. And that applies to every aspect of my life.

Tomorrow, we will have Tristan and Hawley from Sidewalk Hustle!

Mike Lewis has done it again!

As many of you know, I am a huge fan of Mike Lewis and recently he has an editorial that is featured in the latest issue of Supplementaire, the Controversial issue. I can not get enough of the lighting of this shoot because it creates the intense and gloomy mood. Also, lots of props are going to Luis Rajiv simply because I love the styling in the shoot. Here is a taste of the spread and you will have to click here to view the full editorial!

[Re]Visit: Mike Lewis For David Dixon F/W 2010

Mike Lewis, one of the photographers in Toronto I really like, has recently done his first fashion video for David Dixon F/W collection! I am totally loving the video because it stays true to Mike's style and it has the gloomy and mysterious vibe to it! Nevertheless, I am also loving David Dixon's new collection, especially that disco dress!

Mike Lewis + David Dixon = magical combination!

Below is the video for the F/W campaign and if you like to see the prints, you can go to Mike Lewis' official website and find them under the fashion section.

I am so excited about it. Today Mike Lewis has sent me his editorial that is featured in the latest issue of Supplementaire and it is breathtaking! He is always good at creating mood for the photos and this editorial is no exception. I am loving what the model is wearing and at some point I would love to see more of his photos from this set! This is definitely one of his best works to date. Congrats Mike!

Ray of Inspirology: Night Moves

Few days ago, I have posted my interview with Mike Lewis and today, he has a new editorial on fantasticmag and it is fantastic! Tasteful sexy shots are always hard to capture because how the model pose will really affect the outcome of those shots. Mike Lewis has done a great job in this editorial by capture the best poses of Tara Mobayen. Sexy, tasteful and gloomy are the words can best describe this shoot.

Mike, this is a bravo editorial and looking forward to see your next shoot on Fantasticmag.

Here are 3 of my favorites and you can see the whole editorial here.

[Un]Discovers: Mike Lewis

Remember there is a editorial I have talked about called It's The Little Things That Means So Much by Mike Lewis? If you do and like his works, now you are here for a treat because recently I have contacted him and ask him for an interview and he agrees to it. I like his works a lot so I am very excited about it. Let's take a look at what he has for me.

Hey Mike, so how did you pick up fashion photography as your career path? When you were small, did you think about being a photographer?
I would say that I evolved in to fashion photography. I've always loved fiction and storytelling. When I was young, I wanted to be in the film industry. First, I wanted to be an actor, then a director. I went to Film School at the School for Contemporary Arts to learn how to make movies. I picked up photography while in Film School to teach myself about composition and basically learn how cameras work (movie cameras and still cameras work on the exact same principles - aperture and shutter speed). I guess I fell in love with the more intimate nature of still photography. But I also try to incorporate the team mentality of film making into my shoots. It's not just about the photographer and model, it's about every member of the team coming together to tell a story.

Ray of Inspirology: It's The Little Things That Means So Much

The title of this editorials says it all. The lighting is minimal, the props are minimal, and the setting is minimal but the result is exceptional! This editorial is the latest by Mike Lewis for Fantasicmag. I am definitely in love with how he uses the lights to create some fantastic shadows to make the models look very dynamic. Also, probably because of the props, I feel like I am in the Little Prince world when I am looking at the photos.

Overall, I can probably look at this editorial over and over again to learn how to take great artistic fashion photos!
