Dots[Connection]: Happy Birthday!

Here comes the weekly Draw A Dot. recap!

January 7th marked the 1st anniversary of Draw A Dot. and on that day, I launched a special project called The Orange Dot Project. I invited 4 illustrators to each create an illustration based on the signature orange dot and a sound track. This piece below is done by Helen Huang. [Read Here]

Art[s]esne: Dolce & Gabbana F/W 2014 Illustration Project Part 2

The 2nd part of Dolce & Gabbana Illustration project is here and I invited Helen Huang and Florian Meacci to be in charge of this interesting idea. For this, I wanted them to use the roses print from the menswear and incorporated it with the red dresses from the womenswear. You will have to visit Swide to see the results and I can tell you that both pieces are very amazing!

Please visit Swide for the article and Draw A Dot. for my personal remarks.

Graphic[Mashup]: Round 3

It's time for a new round of Graphic[Mashup] and today I am happy to say I have an exclusive image to show you.

Olga Weber (Exclusive)

Olga Weber is very good at illustrating fashionable girls. Yesterday I received an email from her and it contained her latest work. I really like the Dolce & Gabbana dress on the girl and the little dog has made the image to look more playful. The orange background is what reminds me of fall. Nicely done!

Matias G Martinez

I always have my eyes on Matias' works but since he doesn't do fashion illustration often, this is why I did not have the chance to feature his works until now. Matias's take on the house of Christian Dior is beautiful and I really like the smooth graphics. I think Matias can really work on more digital fashion illustrations in the future.

Julia Slavinska

Julia is a big name this week as her latest works have been featuring in numerous  online publications. I really like her illustration touch on each photo and she can really capture the essence of each brand. Click here to see the entire series.

Robert Tirado

Robert's Alexander McQueen illustration is amazing. Even though it is in black and white, I just feel like this piece is full of energy. I would like to see a few more pieces from Robert on Alexander McQueen.

Helen Huang

Last week I showed you Helen's Fall image and today, I want to show you the Winter, a piece that is part of the 4 seasons series. I really like this piece as it can make me feel the cold and moody vibe of winter.

Graphic[Mashup]: Round 2

Last week I debuted a new segment called the Graphic[Mashup] and till this moment, the responses are very positive! This week, I have found more amazing illustrations and want to share with each of you! Let's get ready for Round 2!

Anoma Paleebut

Anoma is a very talented illustrator and out of all the recent works she has done, this Prada one has really captured my heart. it's very simple, whimsical and cute. I wish she can illustrate a few more looks as I think she can create a great illustration series based on this collection.

Michael Sanderson

Michael Sanderson is always one of my favourites and recently he has been featured on B-Insider of Hudson's Bay. I really like this illustration, especially the Hudson's Bay jacket.

Lesley Barnes

Another great work from Lesley and I cannot stop looking at it. This time, her latest illustration is inspired by the Prada F/W 2012 look. Again, I am addicted to this collection so there is no reason for me not to like it.

Helen Huang

Helen has been working on a new series based on the 4 seasons and the first one she released this week is Fall. As always, her girl is very pretty and elegant. I am excited to see the next 3 pieces from this series.

Adrian Valencia

If you are a One Direction fan, you are going to love this illustration created by Adrian Valencia. I like how each member is illustrated in one colour. Now I wonder if he will work on The Wanted next, it will be interesting if he does it.

Roberto Sánchez

Once again, I am attracted to Roberto's illustration this week. This Burberry Prorsum F/W 2012 illustration is fantastic! I love the fox mask and the duck background. These are two of the main elements of this collection. Well done!

Art[s]ense: Diane Pernet's Illustration Project: Alternate Destiny

Well, here is a surprise for you!

Sometime ago, the people from Diane Pernet's website, A Shaded View On Fashion (ASVOF) approached me and wanted me to curate an illustration project to go along with the Milan Fashion Film Festival. Of course I agreed to do it and I chose some really amazing illustrators to be part of this project and their names are Gerardo Larrea, Helen Huang, Joshua David McKenney, Maelle Rajoelisolo, Mike Frederiqo and Sunny Gu.

The theme of this project is about alternate destiny so I have asked each illustrator a question and he/she has to illustrate an image to go along with his/her answer. I am not going to reveal much here because I want you to head over to there to read it!

Thank you to all the illustrators for make this project into reality!

Graphicology: Helen Huang's Chinese Zodiac Signs

Helen Huang has been on a roll lately! First she has drawn the Valentino piece, now she has a new set to show to the readers on this blog! She has recently created this Chinese Zodiac Signs series and every girl in each picture has the particular characteristic associated to the corresponding sign. My favorite will be the rat and dragon. What about you?

Graphicology: My Valentines by Helen Huang

Even though Valentine's Day is over, I do have to show you this work by Helen Huang. In this art piece, the girl is wearing the S/S 2011 collection of Valentino's dress and I am loving the ruffles detail here. Once again, the image is very soft and you can totally feel the love from it. What do you think?

Graphicology: à la mode x Helen Huang Christmas Postcard 2010

We have been promoting it since mid November and now the image of the postcard is finally revealed here! This postcard is based on the last outfit of Alexander McQueen F/W 2010 collection and we pay our final tribute to the great fashion designer Lee Alexander McQueen.

Here is what Helen Huang has to say about the inspiration of this master piece:
"Alexander McQueen was a genius, a truly master of visual art. I am still blown away every time when I see his work and this piece is my tribute to him.
This image is based on the final outfit of Alexander McQueen’s 2010 fall/winter collection. The color palette also comes from this collection and I do feel the color red is full of life and passion. The golden feathers represent an angelic dove, ready to take wing. On the left, there is the grid which represents a net that entrapped her. Love and hope are represented by the doves and the light on the right. The theme of this piece is about the inner struggle for freedom."
We are also getting rave reviews from the people whom have received the postcard and here is one of them:
"Helen Huang’s illustration of a golden jacket handcrafted from feathers and a mass of angelic beaded white tulle for the à la mode holiday postcard is a poignant reminder of the fashion world’s stunning loss. The image is a lovely tribute to Lee Alexander McQueen and his posthumous 2010 fall/winter collection." - The Fashionist
"When I received my postcard from Marcus in the mail I had no idea what I was receiving. The stunning image of McQueen's final masterpiece beautifully paired with a deep red and gave it such a holiday feel. It is by far the most creative holiday card I've recieved. I have it sitting on my desk right next to my computer while I work for inspiration." - Scot Woodman
"Thank you again! The McQueen christmas card is gorgeous and already hung up on my wall! :)" - Emily Taylor
"'Red is the new Black.' is my slogan for 2011, and this postcard illustrates it to perfection. The dramatic hair, the stunning Alexander McQueen dress, and of course the touch of red, remind me that being bold and being yourself is what matters after all. For 2011, Be Fearless and True to yourself, show the world what you're made of, Be on fire. Happy Holidays to the [à la mode] Team!" - Miss SLY
Next year, we will be working on another Christmas postcard so keep an eye on our next collaboration in November 2011! Thank you for participating our giveaway and we hope you have a wonderful holiday season! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

This year, we have teamed up with a Los Angeles based illustrator Helen Huang to produce a limited edition Christmas postcard. We have only printed 250 copies and even though a lot of people have been asking us for a copy, we have managed to save a very limited amount of copies to our readers. We will not release the final image online till the last week of Christmas so whoever is getting it in physical print will get the first scope of this amazing illustration! "The legacy that is FASHION is represented and captured in the creativity and artwork of the talent artist (Helen Huang). Whimsical, inspiring and captures the holder's attention and that's just the back portion of the postcard" - Fashionights

"Combining art, fashion, and Christmas, it was magical and inspiring! Truly a treasure. I'll be framing mine & eagerly awaiting next year's!" - Fashion Hungry

"In an industry where communication consists mostly of tweets and e-mails, it is so refreshing and heartwarming to be handed a personalized card. The genuine and thoughtful message I received not only put a smile on my face but also reminded me that without my wonderful friends, life could not be this fabulous! " - Girls of T.O.

"I turned the card around - it was like tom ford was santa claus and I was on his good list.
Festive, fashionable and forever in my heart" - Whatever... Eurotrash

[Re]Visit: Helen Hung's WaWa

Helen, aka CQ Cat who is our [Un]Discovers artist,  has recently done a new series called WaWa. This is her first time to try out this new style and I think the art pieces look very good. This somehow reminds me of the Japanese dolls (probably because the iris is missing). I do highly recommend you to take a look at this series.

[un]Discovers: Helen Huang

à la mode Time Capsule

I have known Helen, aka CQ Cat for sometime now and her works never fail to amaze me. Recently, she has been featured in several online articles and her name is starting to be known by the public. I am so honored that she has created an image exclusive for this blog (above) and we have also collaborated on an image, Monkey Tamed (below) together a few months ago.

Monkey Tamed

I am glad that Helen is willing to let me do a Q&A session with her so you will get to know more about her as an artist. You will get to know where and how she gets her inspiration and most important, will she ever draw a male character in her works? So here we go...

Helen, I have seen a lot of your works and they are unique, would you mind tell me what are your inspirations?
My inspiration comes from everything. Once you keep your mind open, you can see beauty everywhere, every day. I also love window-shopping and reading fashion magazines. Colors and patterns always give me inspiration in a very wonderful way. I carry a sketch book with me everywhere I go, whenever I have a free moment or an idea, I would do some sketch.
