Dots[Connection]: The Birth of Draw A Dot.!

On Monday, I announced the birth of my new site, Draw A Dot., and I hope you have had a chance to visit the site. If not, do not worry, as I am going to show you this week's highlights from here. (This segment will be replacing Graphic[Mashup] I previously had on this site.)

Bijou Karman is an illustrator I have come across recently and I love her works a lot. Her Alexander McQueen S/S 2011 series is very inspiring, but strangely enough, I didn't come across it until now. I recommend you to take some time to look at these wonderful illustrations. [Read Here]

It's no secret I am a fan of Roberto Sánchez and his latest series on Iris Van Herpen Couture collections has instantly become one of my favourites. I really love the details on the clothes and all I can say is, Roberto is very talented! [Read Here]

António Soares is a great illustrator and his series on the Portugese fashion collections has really blown my mind. I love how realistic those images are and the details on the clothes are flawless. Soares is definitely a name you want to know. [Read Here]

Game[On]: Draw A Dot

If you have read the New Year's post, you may have already gotten a sneak peek. If not, do not worry, because today I am going to announce the big news.

You may have noticed that I did not do any big project (I did I Scream Awards in 2010 and 15 minutes of fame in 2011) for 2012. The truth is, since December, I have been working on a new site and now, I can finally present it to you

Draw A Dot. is all about illustrations. Ever since I launched à la mode back in late 2009, one of the strengths of this site was the illustration section. It not only helped me to secure a contributor position at Swide Magazine, I also had the chance to work on a project with the world famous Diane Pernet. In 2011, I thought it would be a natural move for me to create a new site just for this category. After some time of planning , Draw A Dot. was born in December 2012 and it is now the sister site of à la mode.

This site will be focusing on 3 main categories: fashion illustrations, surreal illustrations and characters designs. I will also curate some original projects to let the readers see the strengths of some emerging illustrators. For those of you who read the Graphic[Mashup] on this site, I am going to have a new way to repackage this section and link it to Draw A Dot.. Stay tuned.

Graphic[Mashup]: Round 6

Before I show you the fashion illustrations I have found this week, I just want to make a little note here.

Throughout these years, I have been looking at a lot of fashion illustrations and somehow, I rarely come across illustrations based on Viktor and Rolf's collections. I have been a fan of this brand for quite some time now and there are so many good fashion pieces that can be translated beautifully in illustration forms. Maybe some of my fellow illustration readers can take this challenge? If you do a nice series, I promise I will do a special feature just on you.

Anyway, let's get back to the weekly round up!

Nancy Zhang

I have been a fan of Nancy for quite sometime now because of her self-portrait illustrations. The follow piece is commissioned by Elle China and I love how the Sagittarius girl looks so chic in Prada S/S 2013.

Tara Dougans

I am always a big fan of Tara and these 2 images have really blown me away. They are featured in the fall issue of Commons & Sense and I am fascinated by Tara's interpretation on the Alexander McQueen F/W 2012 collection. Surreal and edgy.

Wendy Ding

You have seen the postcard Wendy has designed for this blog few days ago and now I want to show you one of my favourite illustrations from her site. This illustration is based on a toilet paper gown designed by Ashtiani and I really like the retro vibe on the girl. The image is beautiful and glamourous.

Maelle Rajoelisolo

Christmas is here and Maelle has decided to dress up Pamplemousse in this beautiful blue gown. The composition is flawless here and don't you find this image to be very magical? Maybe this can turn into a holiday card one day!

Achraf Amiri

Another Christmas image but in a totally different vibe. Achraf is known for his dark and humorous illustrations. I personally am in love with this image because the character has all the Achraf's signature elements (eyebrows, long nails) and I feel like she is coming from Asia! What do you think?

This week, I found 3 awesome fashion illustrations and I just want to share them with you.

Flavio Melchiorre

This image is featured in the Commons&Sense n°43 and it is all about the Fendi F/W 2012 collection. I really like the composition of it and if you look closely, you can see a lot of iconic items from this sesaon in this particular illustration. Bravo work Flavio!

Liselotte Watkins

This image is also from the latest issue of Commons&Sense and Liselotte has created 2 illustrations based on the Louis Vuitton F/W 2012 collection. Once again, I am in love with this collection so putting it into illustration simply suits my taste.

J. Larkowsky

I actually didn't see a lot of Givenchy F/W 2012 illustrations this season so I am so glad Joseph has decided to do it. I really like these 3 dresses so seeing them in illustration is definitely a treat! Nicely done!

Time for another round up!

Spiros Halaris

Spiros has recently collaborated with Revlon to create 2 illustrations for its 80th anniversary. I really like this piece below because of the striking colours and the expression of the model. You can click here for more information about this project.

Lena Ker

Lena is a fashion illustrator I recently came across online. I really like her realistic illustrations and the latest piece she created is inspired by the Jean Paul Caultier S/S 2013 collection. To me, this is a perfect image!

Laura Laine

If you are a fan of fashion illustration, you should be familiar with Laura Laine. I think this illustration is brilliant as it combines the gold ring and her signature character. I think this combination is a perfect fit.

Roberto Sánchez

Roberto illustrated a very whimsical image this time and it is from the Thom Browne S/S 2013 collection. I really like the details of this image and it will be cool if he can illustrate a piece inspired by the men's collection as well (with the whales!).

Sunny Gu

For this week, Sunny has released a new fashion illustration based on the Christian Dior S/S 2013 collection. I still remember when I first looked at this collection, this iridescent floral dress was one of the pieces instantly caught my eyes. I really like the illustration version of it as it truly reflects the vibe of this dress!

Jennifer Lilya

Christmas is almost here and Jennifer is bringing some holiday cheers to all of us.  I really like this stylish Mrs. Santa Clause and if you like her too, you can purchase this image as a greeting card!

It's time for a new round of Graphic[Mashup] and today I am happy to say I have an exclusive image to show you.

Olga Weber (Exclusive)

Olga Weber is very good at illustrating fashionable girls. Yesterday I received an email from her and it contained her latest work. I really like the Dolce & Gabbana dress on the girl and the little dog has made the image to look more playful. The orange background is what reminds me of fall. Nicely done!

Matias G Martinez

I always have my eyes on Matias' works but since he doesn't do fashion illustration often, this is why I did not have the chance to feature his works until now. Matias's take on the house of Christian Dior is beautiful and I really like the smooth graphics. I think Matias can really work on more digital fashion illustrations in the future.

Julia Slavinska

Julia is a big name this week as her latest works have been featuring in numerous  online publications. I really like her illustration touch on each photo and she can really capture the essence of each brand. Click here to see the entire series.

Robert Tirado

Robert's Alexander McQueen illustration is amazing. Even though it is in black and white, I just feel like this piece is full of energy. I would like to see a few more pieces from Robert on Alexander McQueen.

Helen Huang

Last week I showed you Helen's Fall image and today, I want to show you the Winter, a piece that is part of the 4 seasons series. I really like this piece as it can make me feel the cold and moody vibe of winter.

Last week I debuted a new segment called the Graphic[Mashup] and till this moment, the responses are very positive! This week, I have found more amazing illustrations and want to share with each of you! Let's get ready for Round 2!

Anoma Paleebut

Anoma is a very talented illustrator and out of all the recent works she has done, this Prada one has really captured my heart. it's very simple, whimsical and cute. I wish she can illustrate a few more looks as I think she can create a great illustration series based on this collection.

Michael Sanderson 

Michael Sanderson is always one of my favourites and recently he has been featured on B-Insider of Hudson's Bay. I really like this illustration, especially the Hudson's Bay jacket.

Lesley Barnes

Another great work from Lesley and I cannot stop looking at it. This time, her latest illustration is inspired by the Prada F/W 2012 look. Again, I am addicted to this collection so there is no reason for me not to like it.

Helen Huang

Helen has been working on a new series based on the 4 seasons and the first one she released this week is Fall. As always, her girl is very pretty and elegant. I am excited to see the next 3 pieces from this series.

Adrian Valencia

If you are a One Direction fan, you are going to love this illustration created by Adrian Valencia. I like how each member is illustrated in one colour. Now I wonder if he will work on The Wanted next, it will be interesting if he does it.

Roberto Sánchez

Once again, I am attracted to Roberto's illustration this week. This Burberry Prorsum F/W 2012 illustration is fantastic! I love the fox mask and the duck background. These are two of the main elements of this collection. Well done!

Graphic[Mashup]: Round 1

Throughout these years, I have been introducing different illustrators and their works to you and I am sure you have your favourites. Back in the days, I did want to show you more of their works but some of the times they didn't have enough images for an entry. Because of that, starting from now, I am going to have a weekly section to showcase works by some of the illustrators I have featured before on here or/and on Swide.

Roberto Sanchez

Just like Roberto, when I think of Alexander McQueen, the 2 feather pieces from F/W 2009 collection will always come into mind. I think these 2 pieces Roberto illustrated can reflect the playfulness of the clothing pieces.

Cirque de papier

Comme des Garçons F/W 2012 is a very cool collection as the clothes are in 2D form. Juni is wearing one of my favourite dresses from this collection and she looks so cute in it. 

J.Larkowsky

 It's a given that J.Larkowsky's illustrations always excite me. This time, he has illustrated the Alexander McQueen S/S 2007 collection and I really love the details of this dress.

Spiros Halaris

Spiros has recently illustrated this piece featuring Prada's S/S 2013 collection. While I am still not a big fan of this collection, I can see why illustrators are in love with it because there are so many creative ideas they can do to enhance the collection.

Sunny Gu

A very playful illustration by Sunny Gu. I love the Moschino S/S 2013 piece and also, the flowers that create the dress. This makes me think of summer and I can't wait for it to come back.

Cristian Grossi

Cristian has just created some Christmas ornaments for people to download and I love them very much. They are whimsical and contain the aesthetic of Cristian's illustration style. You can click here to download the ornaments!
