Walk the Walk: Zita Pop F/W 2011 Collection

Zita Pop showed her latest collection on the final day of FAT and it was a solid runway show. The show consisted of 11 looks and every piece was blended with contemporary art and cultural reference elements to make the collection looked fresh and edgy. At this moment, I cannot wait to see what Zita will be producing for her S/S 2012 collection! Bravo work!

Pros:
- I like the cultural reference and the contemporary art element in this collection. These 2 factors make the collection look fresh and unique.
- Loving the details on the pieces. Everything is so delicate.
- Even though the collection consists of many colors, yet the collection is still very solid and strong.

Cons:
- There might be a small problem if you need to do mix and match with your clothing in your wardrobe.

Eye Candies:
- One piece dress with big pads on shoulder and waist
- Black and grey fur long coat

April 2011 Memories

This is truly another spectacular month and we cannot believe how much support we have received from the arts and fashion industry. For that, we just want to say a BIG THANK YOU. Now, let's get back to this April memory...

For our [Un]Discovers segment, we have quite a number of features. First off, we have a pop group named Ultraviolet Sound which we are in love with their songs. Then we have a Cor Sine Labe Doli, an accessory brand we really like at the moment. To round off the month, we have a special feature on a website called Clothes on Films.

Of course, since we are doing collaboration posts with FAT, we have 4 [Un]Discovers that are specific for this event. We have featured four amazing fashion designers this year and they are Zanete Auzina, Anastasia Lomonova, Zita Pop and Saint Hollywood by Uta Bekaia. Anne Cayer, the winner of |FAT| contest back in February, has also contributed 1 entry to us and it is the interview with Kelleth Cuthbert. We really hope you enjoy those entries as they are some amazing talented designers/artists.

As for the Swide department, we have done some amazing features on some artists for this month. The artists include fashion illustrators Michael Sanderson and Connie Lim, and abstract art artist Ryan Rader.

Lisa Nishimura continues to amaze us with her great fashion illustrations and this month she has contributed 2 runway sets to us: Burberry F/W and VAWK F/W collections.

Last but not least, we have a new section called [Burberry] Rhythm. Each week, we are featuring one of the Burberry acoustic performances and the performances this month is Keane's Somewhere Only We Know. [Un]Discovers: Zita Pop

Here comes the third FAT fashion designer's feature and today it is pleasure for me to interview Zita Pop!

Hello Zita, thank you so much for letting me to interview you. First I want to know, what made you want to become a fashion designer?
The need to express myself led me to want to become a fashion designer. Ever since I was a child, I’ve dealt with arts and I started with drawing, then painting and a little bit of sculpture. At some point, it was inevitable for me to want to become a fashion designer.

It seems like a lot of fashion designers started off as painters first and it makes sense to me. So what are you inspirations for your brand?
I’m inspired by the everyday life, people, contemporary art etc. Sometimes something happen in my everyday life which gives me enough ideas for work.

I can definitely see contemporary art element in your collections. Well, what kind of adjective will you use to describe your collection? Why?
I think the word Raster would describe my collection well as it symbolizes the cultural structure in Middle Europe. The different ethnographic, folkloric and cultural elements connect together, forming the entire area like a raster image.

That's a very interesting adjective to describe your collection! I know you have studied textile and fashion design before, so do you use the textile design element in your collection? Is it hard to blend this element in it?
Yes, I use elements of textile and fashion design and it’s not hard. In fact it’s easy and I really enjoy doing it. What I really learned in university is this: without humor you don’t survive in the fashion world.

Now I am curious,  please tell us about your Fall/Winter 2011 collection. Is there a particular piece you think is the signature of this season? If so, which piece is it?
My working philosophy is based on everyday life and contemporary fashion, which overlaps with the concept of identity. My collections can be successfully included in the "appropriation” type which is presented in nowadays’ art. "Appropriation” is a term associated with the art that takes certain elements out of their usual medium and places them in new contexts. My favorite piece is an abstract collar which it is a simple traditional piece but simplified to extreme.

I can't wait to see your collection and I am sure it will be amazing! Last but not least, what is your plan after showing your collection at FAT? Will you be able to give us a hint on what will we expect to see on your Spring/Summer 2012 collection?
I will make something that inspires Jeff Konst.
