Art[s]ense: Dolce & Gabbana S/S 2013 Illustration Project Part 3

You have seen part 1 and part 2 of the Dolce & Gabbana S/S 2013 illustration project I curated for Swide and today, it is time to reveal part 3.

This segment is all about the realistic side of the collection and I have invited Pippa McManus, Spiros Halaris and Olga Weber to work on some illustrations. The result is very stunning and I think these 3 artists are good fits for this project.

Dots[Connection]: F/W 2013 Menswear Illustrations!

As many of you know, these 2 weeks are all about F/W 2013 menswear runway shows and many of my illustrator friends have been picking out their favourite looks and translated these looks on papers. Today, I want to show you a few from Draw A Dot..

Spiros Halaris

Spiros has recently collaborated with Revlon to create 2 illustrations for its 80th anniversary. I really like this piece below because of the striking colours and the expression of the model. You can click here for more information about this project.

Lena Ker

Lena is a fashion illustrator I recently came across online. I really like her realistic illustrations and the latest piece she created is inspired by the Jean Paul Caultier S/S 2013 collection. To me, this is a perfect image!

Laura Laine

If you are a fan of fashion illustration, you should be familiar with Laura Laine. I think this illustration is brilliant as it combines the gold ring and her signature character. I think this combination is a perfect fit.

Roberto Sánchez

Roberto illustrated a very whimsical image this time and it is from the Thom Browne S/S 2013 collection. I really like the details of this image and it will be cool if he can illustrate a piece inspired by the men's collection as well (with the whales!).

Sunny Gu

For this week, Sunny has released a new fashion illustration based on the Christian Dior S/S 2013 collection. I still remember when I first looked at this collection, this iridescent floral dress was one of the pieces instantly caught my eyes. I really like the illustration version of it as it truly reflects the vibe of this dress!

Jennifer Lilya

Christmas is almost here and Jennifer is bringing some holiday cheers to all of us.  I really like this stylish Mrs. Santa Clause and if you like her too, you can purchase this image as a greeting card!

Throughout these years, I have been introducing different illustrators and their works to you and I am sure you have your favourites. Back in the days, I did want to show you more of their works but some of the times they didn't have enough images for an entry. Because of that, starting from now, I am going to have a weekly section to showcase works by some of the illustrators I have featured before on here or/and on Swide.

Roberto Sanchez

Just like Roberto, when I think of Alexander McQueen, the 2 feather pieces from F/W 2009 collection will always come into mind. I think these 2 pieces Roberto illustrated can reflect the playfulness of the clothing pieces.

Cirque de papier

Comme des Garçons F/W 2012 is a very cool collection as the clothes are in 2D form. Juni is wearing one of my favourite dresses from this collection and she looks so cute in it. 

J.Larkowsky

 It's a given that J.Larkowsky's illustrations always excite me. This time, he has illustrated the Alexander McQueen S/S 2007 collection and I really love the details of this dress.

Spiros Halaris

Spiros has recently illustrated this piece featuring Prada's S/S 2013 collection. While I am still not a big fan of this collection, I can see why illustrators are in love with it because there are so many creative ideas they can do to enhance the collection.

Sunny Gu

A very playful illustration by Sunny Gu. I love the Moschino S/S 2013 piece and also, the flowers that create the dress. This makes me think of summer and I can't wait for it to come back.

Cristian Grossi

Cristian has just created some Christmas ornaments for people to download and I love them very much. They are whimsical and contain the aesthetic of Cristian's illustration style. You can click here to download the ornaments!

Graphicology: OVEREXPOSED

Spiros Halaris had his first solo exhibition "OVEREXPOSED" during London Fashion Week in September. Even though I couldn't be there, I am happy to show you some new works from him which are illustrated specifically for this exhibition.

Over the past 2 years, Halaris' style has evolved a lot. His works have become more abstract and vibrant. Out of all the new works, I am specifically drawn to the Prada piece. From colours to the expression of the model, everything seems like a perfect fit here. I would love to have this as a poster in the future!

Congratulations to Spiros Halaris on his first exhibition and I hope there will be more to come! I would like to be at his exhibition one day.

Graphicology: Christian Louboutin by Spiros Halaris

Christian Louboutin and Spiros Halaris, what a prefect match!

As many of you know, Christian Louboutin is having an exhibit at Design Museum in London at the moment and I am so happy to say one of my favourite illustrators is actually involved in it. Spiros Halaris has collaborated with Design Museum to create 3 abstract images of the red sole shoes. The pieces are very modern and surreal (somehow also they remind me of Dali's works). Graphicology: Spiros Halaris x Maria Luisa Paris x The Corner

I love when illustrator continues to evolve his/her style and Spiros Halaris is one of the good examples.

Recently, Halaris has collaborated with Maria Luisa Paris and The Corner to promote the new S/S 2012 collections on the online store.  I find Halaris' style has changed and the images become very edgy, with a hint of futuristic vibe. I really like what I am seeing here and below are 6 of the images from this series. You can click here to see the complete set.

Let's start the new year with a bang on Swide!

Few months ago, I have asked 12 of my illustrator friends to each illustrate some pieces from Dolce & Gabbana S/S 2012 collection. After that, I have asked them some questions to explain their interpretations of the collection. I am very happy with the result and right now, we have the menswear series which features works from Adrian Valencia, Dan May, Gary Fernández, John Woo, Michael Sanderson and Spiros Halaris. Artology: [ posterism ] Part 2

My good friend Spiros Halaris has finally completed the [ posterism ] series and today it is my honored to show you the last 5 pieces of this series. The brands include for this 2nd part of this project are Chanel, Balenciaga, Maison Martin Margiela, Raf Simons and Comme des Garcons. My favorite one is the Comme des Garcons one as it really shows the gloomy feeling of this season (plus, I think my abstract art mind is acting here as I can see some skulls imagery here). Which one do you like?

Artology: [ posterism ] Part 1

Spiro Halaris is doing something great again but this time, it is not about fashion illustration (still related to fashion though). Instead, he is creating some abstract arts to represent different fashion houses.

According to Spiros' description, he is "creating a series of 10 A4 campaign-like posters each representing one fashion house and their recent influences on the fashion industry". At this moment, he has done 5 of them and they are Prada, Alexander McQueen, Jil Sander, Givenchy and Marc by Marc Jacobs. My personal favorite has to be Jil Sander since I can feel the summer breeze when I look at the image. I am looking forward to see the second part of this project. Well done!

[Un]Discovers: Spiros Halaris

Few weeks ago, I have come across an amazing illustration series called "The Boys Of The Future" and if you have followed this blog, you should have seen the post. Recently I have contacted Spiros Halaris, the person who is behind these amazing artworks and I am so happy he is willing to do this Q&A with me. Readers, you do not want to miss a single piece of information from this great illustrator.

Boys Of The Future

Hey Spiros, thanks so much for letting me feature you on this blog. As usual, I always like to ask this question, what made you want to become a fashion illustrator? Other than fashion, do you like to illustrate other objects?
I have always liked drawing,sketching and doodling on every possible surface,but it was when I discovered fashion that I realized how creative the combination could be. But aside from fashion I love illustration in general, I think it is a form of art with extreme possibilities and amazing variety. I like also to illustrate people that have nothing to do with fashion,just regular ordinary people that can be found anywhere around you.

Complicated

I like to draw too but sadly, my skills are never up to professional level. That may be one of the reasons I start this blog, I just want to meet more talented artists. So, in you own words, how will you describe you illustration style? Are you influenced by any illustrators?
I would describe my style as a bit abstract but at the same time realistic too. As I love to deconstruct what I am illustrating but on the other hand I want it to have a realistic feeling.
I am influenced by various styles,movements and of course illustrators. Some of them would be David Downton, Ricardo Fumanal, Laura Laine and Dany Roberts.

I can see the abstract part and this is probably why my eyes are so attractive to your works. Out of all the projects you have done so far, which one can best represent you? Why?
This will be the toughest question to answer as all the projects I have done so far represent me to the fullest. They represent my point of view,my taste and my sense of style in many ways not just about fashion. But since I have to choose one, it would have to be 'Neighborhoods of the world'. It is a project presenting everyday but fashionable people from all over the world. It is a project that I think represents an era of fashion bloggers and style that has been around for some time now plus my style as a fashion illustrator.

Yes, I like that series a lot too, because each piece represents the fashion culture of that country. I am just curious here, will you be able to tell us what is your work flow when doing an illustration piece?
I do not really follow a specific process although I sometimes do without realizing. Usually if it is personal work I will spend hours and sometimes days researching or working an idea on my mind before I start drawing. If it is a commission and time is limited I usually try to produce the same quality as I would do for a personal work and go through various steps to reach a result that I am fully satisfied with.

Right now I do have a question that is not really related to illustration. Since you are a fashion illustrator, I assume you are a fashion lover too. What are you top 3 brands and why?
I would say that yes I am fashion lover indeed. My top brands would be Alexander McQueen, Maison Martin Margiela and the new but a lot promising Damir Doma. Mcqueen would be one of my top brands as I can relate to the dark and complex and sometimes punkish sense it has. I like Margiela because it represents the ultimate minimalism but always with a twist. Damir is also on my list because I think he brought something refreshing to the fashion scene, proposed something that not many people can relate to but at the same time is simple and talks for itself.

Alexander McQueen is always one of my favorites and I am happy that Sarah Burton does not disappoint me with her first S/S collection. Last but not least, if you could have a chance to do an illustration editorial for a fashion magazine, which one would you want to do? Why?
I think it would be Dazed&Confused. They are doing an amazing job and every issue is very inspiring to me. It is a magazine that I would love to collaborate with and add my little piece to their amazingly creative world.

Graphicology: Boys Of The Future

I love fashion and I love illustration so when I see this on Behance, my heart just skips a beat.

This illustration series is drawn by Spiros Halaris. In here, he has recreated all the best looks from the menswear S/S 2011 collection onto paper with ink and paint. They all look stunning to me but if I have to choose my favorites, my eyes will be on the Prada and Alexander McQueen ones (I love the details on the pants). I am hoping I will be able to get a feature of him so I will get to know more about this great illustrator.
