StyleNotes[Cheat Sheet]: New Year! New Start!

Happy New Year! Now it's time to see what's on the first fashion cheat sheet of 2013!

Karlie Kloss is not only one of my favourite models of these recent years, but she is also Vogue's top model in 2012. She has done some pretty amazing editorials for 20 issues of Vogue (both US and International) in this past year. I am pretty sure her career will continue to glow in 2013. [Read Here]

Congrats on being Vogue's top model! (source: StyleNotes)

I hope you had a great New Year's Eve party but I bet nothing could beat this one. Valentino Garavani hosted a party in Gstaad, Switzerland and his guests were none other than Madonna and Anne Hathaway. Seriously, this might be the best New Year's Eve party of 2012. [Read Here]

I bet all of us would want to be there... (source: StyleNotes)

See you again next week!

Fashion[Knowledge]: Grace: A Memoir

When you think of US Vogue, there are always 2 people's name that will pop up in your brain: Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington. Recently, Grace has released her memoir and I think this will be a good book on your Christmas shopping list.

In this book, not only will you get to know about her life and her time at Vogue, you also get to see some of her amazing illustrations. In my opinion, her illustrations are always so fascinating. They are whimsical, fun and each image can capture the essence of that particular scene (The Karl Lagerfeld with his cat illustration has been stuck in my mind ever since I first flipped through the book). You can purchase this book online at Indigo right now.

I love this! Prada illustrations by Grace!

How can I not love this piece? Most of the famous fashion people are in here!

Fashionist[On The Go]: Meryl Streep's First!

I found quite a number of interesting stories on The Fashionist this week and today I want to share 2 of them with you.

I am pretty sure Meryl Streep has done a lot of things in her acting career but you may not know the January 2012 issue of Vogue is her first time to be the cover girl of this fashion magazine. She is shot by Annie Leibovitz and I think the cover is beautiful. [Read Here]

She looks lovely. (source: The Fashionist)

Once, twice, thrice? Well, I find it very funny that the same photo of Carey Mulligan has appeared on 3 magazine covers in the last year. Don't believe it? See for yourself here. I wonder if there is a rule to ban this recycling photo act... [Read Here]

I like the Elle France cover more, more natural. (source: The Fashionist)

See you next week!

It's Friday so this means it is another fresh edition of Fashionist [On The Go]! McQueen fans, get ready to read the follow news...

Recently Markus Klinko & Indrani have shot a rather artistic photo set featuring Daphne Guinness. The shots are very haunting, yet beautiful at the same time. Also, the duo has shot a video featuring Daphne and named it as A Tribute to the Spirit of Alexander McQueen which I think is a very breathtaking video. What do you think? [Read Here]

I always think Daphne is the perfect muse for McQueen, agree?

As many of you may know, the cover girl for April's issue of Vogue is Rihanna and finally her editorial is out on the web. I really like the cover but am slightly disappointed by the editorial. What do you think? [Read Here]

I expect a little more from Annie Leibovitz, so... (source: The Fashionist)

Ray of Inspirology: Mr. Ford Returns

Mr. Tom Ford has finally returned and I am exceptionally excited to see this spread in the latest issue of US Vogue!

This shoot is shot by Steven Meisel and the fashion numbers you see here are all from Ford's S/S 2011 collection. After the private showing in September, the public has been curious on what Tom Ford will be offering for his S/S 2011 collection. This editorial is the first time for the public to see some of the amazing pieces and they look very elegant and classy. The price range from this collection is between $3,500 to $20,000. Consider this is the return collection of Tom Ford, I am sure all the A-listers will be lining up to get a piece of it.

Ray of Inspirology: Fork & Country

This issue of Vogue has a few interesting and beautiful editorials and this is one of them.

This spread is done by David Sims featuring Stella Tennant. The location choice is great and I am always impressed with the styling skill of Grace Coddington. I have to admit, other than Stella, I cannot think of anyone that will fit this spread. I am totally in love with this outdoor shoot!

Ray of Inspirology: Red Alert

Red is always so attractive and this is the reason why I am attracted to this spread!

This editorial from the latest issue of Vogue Portugal is shot by Pedro Ferreira featuring Jessica Bertoncelo. I am first attracted by the portrait shot simply because of the red lipstick and the red hood. The lighting, wind effect and composition are great here and I especially like the contrast between the colors red and green/grey-ish background. This is a series I will for sure to put into my inspiration pile.

Ray of Inspirology: Universal Coverage

It's not even the September issue but Vogue has already featured one of the best editorials for this F/W season already!

This outdoor shoot is done by Mr. Steven Meisel featuring some of the world's top models such as Christina Kruse, Sasha Pivovarova, Caroline Trentini, Daria Strokous and Mirte Maas. Marie-Amelie Sauve, the stylist, has skillfully transformed the girls into different characters in this dreamy spread. I love the color tone, the clothes, the models and the setting and these factors make my eyes happy when I look at the photos.

Ray of Inspirology: Blake Lively For Vogue June 2010

If you a fan of Gossip Girl, I am sure you will know Blake Lively. In the latest issue of Vogue, Mario Testino has transformed her into a beach girl. The editorial is young, refreshing and at some point you will want summer to arrive right at this moment. I am usually not a fan of snap shot type editorial but for this one, I just can't get my eyes off a few of the photos.

Here are my favorites.

Ray of Inspirology: A Feast for the Eyes, Patrick Demarchelier

Every once in awhile, we need something to stimulate our senses. It's not necessarily your taste or smell, but visually. This month in Vogue, photographer Patrick Demarchelier had done this extraordinary job on Karlie Kloss. This piece of work had triggered our sense visually and also triggered our sense of creativity.

Ray of Inspirology: Date with Destiny

Outdoor shoot is always fun but looking for the right location is always the toughest part of the whole project. Norman Jean Roy has recently done an editorial shoot for Vogue and he has used some interesting locations. The one I like the most is Raquel Zimmermann posing with Sam Worthington and I have to admit I like everything that robot is involved.

Ray of Inspirology: Lara Stone for British Vogue December 2009

Before this post, I have to admit that I am not a fan of Lara Stone; however, when I read the December issue of British Vogue, I finally understand why she is the IT model of 2009.

This shot is done by Mario Testino and he can totally capture the best part of Lara Stone. I really like the setting and the dresses she wears. Here are some shots I like from this shoot. Photos are courtesy of British Vogue.

Ray of Inspirology: Hedi Slimane

When I think about black and white photography, there is always a person pop out in my mind. His name is Hedi Slimane. He once work as a creative designer for Dior Homme for a few years until he leaves the brand in July 2007. Since then, he has done a lot of photo shoots, both personal and commercial, and has become one of the most famous photographers of all times.

I always find his style to be unique. Most of the time when you look at his photos, you know that he only uses a very simple set up and still be able to achieve amazing results. Most of his photos are in black and white but they are never lack of modernism. Once I have a conversation with my friends and we are discussing his photos, in the end we come up with this conclusion: His photo is like a landscape photo, it is something that you will actually want to buy it and hang it on the wall, regardless the person in the photo is a celebrity or not. Overall, his photos are going towards an artistic approach and I personally really like his dramatic shadow effects.

If you believe you have never heard of his name or seen his works, trust me, they are everywhere. One of the recent works he has done is the CD cover of Lady GaGa's latest CD: The Fame Monster. Also, he has done a spread of Robert Pattinson for the magazine AnOther Man.

Here are some of his works.

Ray of Inspirology: Little Girl and Boy Lost

A lot of editorial shoots have inspired the way I think photography should be. In this section, I am going to share some shoots that inspire me.

I always have a thing for fairy tale, but in a twisted way. Also, I have followed Lady GaGa interesting choice of fashion sense ever since I saw her on the Miss Universe back in 2008. When Lady GaGa meets fairy tale, you get Annie Leibovitz's latest editorial shoot for Vogue.

This shoot also has one of my favorite models, Lily Cole. She is the girl who is on her food hunting adventure with her brother (actor Andrew Garfield). In the end, they encounter the witch (Lady GaGa) and they kill her to save the children in the house.

Simple story line, but lots of imagination! I love how Annie uses lots of giant props to make this fantasy comes true. Overall, her works always amaze me (Remember her version of Disney characters? They are my top favorite)!
